Well I could run the stats for the communities I serve but not sure how useful that would really be. It certainly varies by community. Not sure that folks are looking for smaller homes as a general trend, the bigger issue is amenities and upgrades

I am loving my own downsized dream home.  

Our market encompasses two states, well over a dozen counties, urban, rural, suburban.... just too hard to generalize and a generic average would be useless.

Wow, with such a diverse market, hard to say! On the upper end 3,700 sq. ft. plus. For the rest, closer to 2,000 sq. ft.!

Varies from about 1,600 sq ft in Tewksbury to about 3,200 sq ft in Andover! 

The average is about 1700 sq. ft. but the median is more like 2000.

There is no average. We are all over the place with house sizes, lot sizes and year built, ect. 

Most want bigger, a few want tiny homes, or at least they think they do.

They are going from 2 story to ranch and laundr on the main level for those with basements.

Jack - That is very difficult to determine in my market, since we have homes built in the 1980's that are just around 1,000 sq ft; right next to homes built in the late 90's, that range from 1,600 sq ft to 3,000 sq ft; and right next to those, are homes built in the early 2000's that are 4,000 sq ft to 5,000 sq ft plus. These neighborhoods are all right next to one another, and it is like that all over my service area.

average size now is 2,200 to 2,500 s.f.of living space above grade....

It varies so much I would not want to say.  We cover it all from condos to million+ dollar customs.

I have not looked into it. 

The average home is about 1600-1700 sf. starter homes often around 1000-1200. Executive still around 2600-3000 sf and Luxury 4000 plus

 I would say that the average property size in this area is about 2500 ft.².

Different buyers want different sizes of homes.  Some condo builders are now building projects with units as small as 300 sq ft.  Some properties have several thousand sq ft.  I don't know if anyone has calculated the average size of a home across my market.

I think the average size must be about 1200 sf.  I think most buyers would like more SF if they could afford it.

There are homes and townhomes here Jack Lewitz, and the range is between 1100 to 2000+ sq. ft. - so 1500 to 1700 sq. ft. would be our average size.
