I can't help as I don't work the FSBO or expired markets.

First check Do Not Call lists before making call. Second I had better luck knocking on their door.

It is better to be standing up as your voice projects better. Same reason that singers / voiceover actors stand when recording.

For FSBO's, set up a preview.
For expired, call and ask if they were still interested in selling.
I don't like scripts, I just approach honestly and remain myself throughout.

I echo John McCormack . I prefer to work with people who have reached out to me through my track record, former clients and professional referrals.

I don't do this but if I was going to I would set an appointment with them and tell them that you would like to pre-view the house so you can keep it in mind for your clients. I would work on a real relationship with them.

You need to check the Do Not Call lists before making any calls. Even then, most of them do not want your calls. Drop by and meet them face to face for the best relationships.

Don't get mad at my answer but I truly don't think the want us to call in 2016. Check Out Laura Duggan's program. I think if you could find more creative ways to get in front of them, handwritten mail with odd looking envelopes ect IMO.

Everyone calls or writes. Why not door knock?

Marina Sarabia & Kathleen Costanzo Everyone calls so I don't think it is very effective. I send out a letter as soon as I see the property isn't relisted. Then I follow up with another letter, if it still isn't listed a month later. If I don't get a response, I take the hint.

Keller Williams is the greatest proponent of directly calling FSBO's and expireds.
What resources does your organization recommend?

Fred, that is one of my main concerns so the question is making a call without actually soliciting a listing--how can that be done?

Definitely check the Federal and State Do Not Call lists. The State of Florida Department of Consumer Services made an example out of some health club / gym that was cold calling. $30K or $40K in fines!

" Hi this is _____ & _______ " We're calling you from our cell phone and are standing outside on your front door stoop. Can we come in and tour your home ?"

I'm jsut starting to work on these 2 in my area. Personal note cards mailed first. I wouldn't want anyone calling me right away and KW would more than likely beat me to that call. :-) First mail out this week, then I will knock on the door.

I would suggest sending them a note, if they are motivated they may reach out to you.
Keep in mind that many are expired for a reason so make sure they are motivated before agreeing to be their next agent.

Marina & Kathleen,
Everybody calls or mails. If it is safe, go knock the door and you’ll be surprised at how many will work with you.
