It would depend upon the size of the bubbles, the size of the bottle and a number of other factors.

It sounds like someone has too much time on their hands, or they drank too much Champagne and are seeing a lot of bubbles.

I had some both last night and today.  I have to say, I don't love it though. I generally will take a small amount for a toast and that's it for me.  

That is a good test, is there any bubbles before the bottle is opened?

I had no idea, Conrad.... but maybe that's because I've downed my glass or two of Veuve Cliquot before I had a chance to count!
