No. We built a very energy efficient home and our utitily bills average around $150 per month. Not bad for 3200 sq. ft.

We will be adding to our solar panel array, and probably outfitting a camper with solar.

I've heated with a wood burning stove for 15 years. We also are very conservative with water, have lots of shade trees for summer months, do laundry at odd evening hours, run the dishwasher in the middle of the night and turn off our water heater when we are away.

William - Not really, tried solar hot water heater in the past. All it did was cost a ton of money, and we didn't save anything.

Get one sales call a week. I told them it is a waste with the low bills getting. Than I get another call. My # is on do not call list.

We live on a hill and should harness that for power. I was told our co op won't allow? Anyhow looking at using the windmill for our source of energy for the barn.

If I knew for sure I would be staying in my home for many years, I would consider solar. We just installed a new energy efficent central air and heat. That is probably all we will do for now. It has been a big sayings already in the last few months.

Solar isn't as popular around here. I thought geothermal might catch on, but not so much.
I saw some solar panels today. Didn't do much good covered with snow. Maybe that's why...

YES, in fact were talking about it this week. Going to try our luck with a solar water heater and see how that goes. If it goes well, the next project might be a solar paneled patio cover/carport. Baby steps.

William,
Solar is not popular here. I can’t think of any I want to try.

I'd love to get a Sterling Engine, could in theory provide unlimited energy without toxic chemicals used in Nuclear or Solar power. Yes, look it up the panel production uses enough toxic chemicals and produces enough toxic waste that it more than offsets the environmental savings by not having coal/nuclear power. I did a paper on it many years ago for some college class or another.
With that said, I'd love to get either a solar roadway for a driveway (unfortunately they are still in development and not available for sale yet to the public), or solar roof shingles (since I hate the look of the panels). Not in the plan for 2016 through 2018 though. Too expensive still and my energy bill at the peak of summer with the A/C going 24/7 is only $250. For me it is more about being able to power the house during prolonged outages from earthquake or wide-spread disruption to the power grid from terrorist attack, computer or operator malfunction or EMP from a solar flare.
Why we don't spend the 1-2 million per power major power transfer center to ground them against this is beyond me. There aren't that many in th US that need it...
