My MLS provides a very free and very basic MLS search via IDX and an iFrame on your site.  Loads super slowly and is a duplicate of their very non-user friendly MLS search that agents need training on in order to use.  I have it on my site because it "checks the box" for MLS search.  It isn't really worth it to me and my business model to pay for a full featured MLS search via an IDX provider at this point.

I setup IDX MLS through a company called N-Play for my Facebook business page. They charge $99yr and sometimes have it on sale. My local board did not have a fee to allow the database access. I also created a new page/button for my website that goes to that same landing page. I tried to use the alamode xsite's IDX platform but since my site was setup primarily as a mortgage broker their backend support hasn't caught up with that some of the brokers out there like me hold licenses for real estate, mortgage, and insurance.

I don't have IDX Solution on my current website. Yes, there is a monthly fee from our provider it's like $33 plus whatever the website programmer is charging if any.  Maybe at some time I will. Placed a link to my office search page. Also a link to search thru my MLS that is not great but works.

I pay for two feeds, one that is a plug in on my site and another that's a RETS feed that I provide to a vendor who built a great search site for me and manages my ppc campaign.  Great retults.  Both of public facing and one is forced registration, the other is not. I pay $15 for one and $40 for the other to the MLS.  I pay the vendor additionally, but I get a good return on the investment.

I use Placester for one site & they are not so great at matching the fields. In fact, I don't believe all the fields are actually being sent. (too technical) I have to do a round-about using custom area search. There is not additional MLS charge there. I like how it looks & don't want to reinvent the wheel just to capture a few buyers.

My MLS (MRED Northern IL) doesn't charge me anything. If I want a MLS custom landing page I believe it's like $9 per month. My MLS also does packages up from there depending on what's in that search.  I just don't like how they look.

Jason - I pay for an IDX MLS feed and it is pushed to my Market Leader website. Our MLS charges an initial $2500 'setup fee', then a $500 initial annual fee, then $250/year to renew the feed. We are only allowed 1 URL and 1 feed/person. So even if I had 2 websites, I would not be allowed to have another IDX feed to that one. (so after reading other people's remarks, I'm thinking I probably have a RETS feed since I only receive MLS information from our MLS) :-/

If all you're doing is pulling your (already paid for) data from your local MLS, then you don't need an IDX feed. You can build your own for a few dollars and customize to your needs. You only need an IDX feed if you're pulling data from various MLS's, or at the very least memberships or agreements from the MLS's you want to pull from.

Access to IDX feed is free from the MLS for approved vendors. However, some vendors who have not connected to this MLS will charge the agent between 200 to 1500 bucks. I have encountered where the MLS and the Vendor wanted ME to pay for interchange connection. No choice but to walk away from that vendor. So, I'm paying....but the MLS folks keep the bill hidden from me as a itemized expense.

With MLS feeds going first to participating broker then the franchises then to the darkside, an agent has many valid options and would be wise to really think about how they want this to work that promotes their value position.

Today, I would not pay a dime for an IDX feed to my website UNLESS the vendor delivered exceptional and advanced lead generating value.
