Not long ago I realized the links that had trulia in them no longer re-directed.  From time to time I have linked to older posts.  So I have being making an effort to go back and check links of one month of old posts a week.  It takes about an hour to get through a month.  

I try to ... at least on my own personal blog site.  Amazing how many times pics and info need sprucing up and updating ...

Excellent question Jeff. I have checked and fixed some. There are programs that check sites for broken links but I do not know of one that will work on Active Rain.

Ironically the older posts carry the most weight SEO wise. It would behoove those that have been here for awhile to make sure all their links are active, especially the ones that link to their web sites.

When I have time I do. I noticed many of the ActiveRain updates have broken the links in older posts. That in itself is a bummer.

I do go back every now and then. It is a good source of info to re-post old blogs in new forms

Wow, you really woke up a lot of us. Having outdated information or bad links will not impress a potential client that is considering you as an agent. I think all of us should do this regularly.    Dave

Jeff -- the question you ask is both an excellent one as well as quite scary.  I typically don't check but have gone back(especially seasonal posts) and update for a new more up-to-date post.   

I've been doing that more than I have in the past.

Yes, I definitely try to edit/improve the ones doing well.  this helps them do even better.  Plus, if the customers are finding them, I want them to have best possible experience.  - Debbie

I have gone back and looked at older posts. I've made some changes to some of them. I should probably do more of this. 

You bet, I wrote a post on how to find & fix your most popular. I was surprised that a few important links didn't work or the website changed completely.

Jeff, you've done so many that you have to make sure they keep their staying power.

I have been known to "freshen them up" or write a post, linking to an old post.  It's a time consuming process to go back through ALL posts for bad links but it's certainly a good idea!

I have updated some blogs and reposted them but I usually do not take the time to look for bad links. 

I have done this. Probably should have been done sooner. 

I absolutely need to do that.  I know I have a boat-load (aka crap-ton) of links that no longer work.  Perhaps setting an hour a day I may be done by the end of 2016

Definitely! It's super important to take the time to keep listings about our apartment complexes in Gainesville up to date! Otherwise, if we sell a property, we are often linking to our competitor!

Yes, both on my website and here at Active Rain. I hope to continue to do so here (will always check on my website!) but, of course, it becomes more cumbersome and time-consuming the more posts one makes.

I check for broken links, broken images, and spelling and grammar errors. If I feel it's a matter of outdated content, then a new post is in order and I may add a link to the new from the old (i.o.w. I wouldn't edit the old post for content). 

Yes, but not as systemaically as I "should" do them.

I use my posts to send info to Clients and so when I need an old one, I polish it up before sending. Case in point, home purchased on 12/29 needs new locks - sent a post about Locksmiths and national locksmith fraud - 2011 - had to update names since one retired!
Guess that is the point of updating - right?

I have. I find that going back to the early posts helpful because the ideas were good, but I hadn't found my voice and didn't use any SEO strategies back then.

It might be a good idea to do something like this.

It is definitely a good idea to edit old posts and to fix broken links and to improve titles.

It takes FAR less time to make them better than it did when the post was written.

Yes, Important to look at links on all the external sites we have to make sure they link back to the website. Check Google+ as it matters! If you assume that the links remain in proper working order you could be wrong. Check them out, you may be surprised!

I'd like to updates some of my old posts deleting originals. I see no points to keep outdated posts public.

I try to do this a couple times a year, especially in the neighborhoods I like to work.

I've definitely done that and fixed photo and formatting mistakes, as well. Through the years, I've learned what resonates most and my earliest stuff didn't always make the grade.

No.  On my personal site I have a tool to check all links once per week.

I have a few times when I think about it. I sometimes receive calls from older event posts.

I have not; however based on the comments I guess I should.

Not so much on ActiveRain but definitely on my own site as well as my community web page.

Have not - have reworked some and posted the updated version...

Good question. I go back and do this on videos and it works. Probably should be looking at blogs but more business is coming from video.
