Rhonda Howlett - well, I love pop-bys. Recently, 40 boxes of sweets to my past clients and generated 14 leads! (it was Diwali - Indian Festival of Lights).
Why don't you attend the SUCCESS TOUR from Buffini & Company - event is on March 30th and 31st, 2016 and I plan to be there.

For those who are not familiar with pop bys it helps to explain that it is a Pop by - not a plop by or stop by - you don't even have to go in -

It depends on the relationship. I would never pop by without calling first.
In general though, I don't think it is a tactic I will use as I think like Jill Moog

In the old days when housewives were just that it seemed almost appropriate. Now-a-days it seems like an intrusion.

I tend to make it useful things, stamps, a pen, or something to eat that I made (cookies or candy) and I generally get some referrals out of it.

Stopping by unannounced? Past client or hopeful? I did stop by on a past client to apologize for something I had done that had bothered me for months. Nothing serious just me being upset with circumstances. They were open and friendly and so happy to see me. Wanted to fix me lunch and talk. When I got to what had been bothering me they did not even know what I was talking about. We do tend to build things up in our head don't we? Make it a great week. mark

Door knocking, pop-bys, chatting at the grocery store, I'm open to them all.
You need to be in tune to people's state of mind and/or mood, if they look annoyed, excuse yourself "seems like not an ideal time - we'll catch up on another day, buh-bye!"
if you try to force it like the two lovely young men in white shirts and black ties who popped by my house last week, i'm gonna get annoyed, if you're respectful you'll be appreciated.

In past years I have brought Poinsettias and cans of popcorn for the kids. I think when our clients see us during the busy holiday season, they feel special.

Pop-bys with a token gift are usually ok as long aas it is at a reasonable hour and not dinner time.

It's nice to do and clients like to see you in person. My biggest problem with pop-by's is that they always turn into a visit.... clients so happy to see me they insist I come in, have coffee, talk, etc. So they eat up a lot of time.

I am always puzzled by questions or statements containing 'DO YOU BELIEVE IN"
You possibly intended to ask, 'Has pop-bys been successful for you?" "If yes, what was your approach?"
My response would be YES!
However, the pop-by has a tangible purpose that aligns with their interest.
Example: I receive or obtain tickets to the Tampa Bay Lighting game NEXT week. Now I can pop-by when in the area, on the chance they are home to have them check their schedule.
Keep popping until you find someone home.
Of course it is imperative to understand the real purpose of the pop-by and don't violate that trust.

I pop by my clients and colleagues from time to time, but never delivering trinkets and gifts, that just seems too rehearsed.
For me it is a friendly visit when I am in the area to see how they are doing, generally leads to a good conversation, updates, and once in a while a tip on a good project.

I like to pop by my State Farm insurance agency and bring them a 6 foot subway every 6 months. I have received 3 referral deals thus far (1year) totaling $16k in commission...
I can buy a lot of sandwiches for that.

Rhonda,
I would not want someone “popping by.” I am very goal oriented and my time is carefully allocated. It says they were thinking more of themselves than respecting my time. But if a person thinks it works, go for it.

Rhonda Howlett I've seen real estate trainers promoting it, I just think clients would be irritated. They may not be dressed well, makeup, hair, fighting with someone? Too many possibilities for awkward

I have never done pop-bys but many agents have been successful with pop-bys, especially when food or a gift is being delivered.

Too weird for me. I wouldn't want my agent popping by and giving me any gifts unless it's a full price offer on the property i'm selling.

Thank you everyone for your answers! A lot of insight. I might try pop-bys on my investors and my past clients that would not mind if I show up unannounced and surprised them!
4,434,177
I used to do it sometimes but I agree that people my feel uncomfortable if they are not dressed properly.

No. I do like the request for a brief visit to drop off something and then following though. People like gifts but not untimely interruptions at home.

Most consumers dont like it, you really have to know the person before just stopping by as it could hurt more than help.
