We stopped.  Some thug was advertising our For Sale listings as their rentals.

I don't use Craigslist for listing  -- I know others here have written of success stories but in our area CL is not considered particularly reliable for real estate advertising.   It's not an advertising medium I want to be associated.  

Yes we do and we are happy with the results.

We post and re-post listings on Craiglist daily and sell quite a few homes per year from it. The back end of my web site has a CL auto poster which allows us to post a listing to CL in about 30 seconds. So we really love CL.  In addition, we have done many many rentals off CL posts.

I'm not concerned with scams. The people are calling me or a member of my team and we know how to screen the calls. I don't think we have ever taken a call from anyone that we were the least bit concerned about. You do get a lot of calls from folks that can't qualify but we just move them to a rental if we can.  

I find it to be the only place to effectively post rentals, and of course there are plenty of scammers to work around, but it is the price we have to deal with.

When I was a property manager, I used Craigslist very effectively, and almost exclusively, to advertise my rentals.   Never used it to promote listings for sale.   You always have to be cautious of scams.  Scammers come up with new angles every day.

Due to the certainty of scams, I place no listing on CL.  However that does not eliminate all scams.

I promote my services and value programs on Craigslist, not real estate for sale.

I have in the past, without good results; not anymore.

On listings you notice another agent is using your listing as a bait w/o permission and there is a rental on same property from Nigeria....

I did, however, not anymore.  I had a listing and a rental ad scammed.  It was so bad that I called the FTC and my local police and this person's local police (in another state) to report it, as well as, reporting it to Craigslist.  

I use to until I got scam and someone try to turn them into a rental scam.

I post there.  I've had very limited results with it.  Nothing bad (I watermark all my photos now so I'm not worried about them being stolen), but nothing more than a handful of people going to my website from my embedded link, no calls.  No deals or leads from it.

I forgot to mention rentals.  I only use CL for rentals.  The MLS out here has the option, but almost no one uses it.  When I've put mine in, I got 1 lead on the first rental (who ended up being my tenant), zero leads on the second and I didn't even waste my time on it with the third rental.  Out here, it isn't worth an agent's time to work with renters.  For example, I passed on $100 on my first rental as a finder's fee to the other agent.

Craigslist is very effective for rentals.  Not quite as good for sales, except for the bargains.

No. Scams are a real problem.

I've made out well in the past with Craigslist. Over time you'd learn how to slice and dice to bring home the bacon. Investment related real estate and rentals work well currently.

Never for sales listings (dangerous and yes, scams). But rental managers use it for advertising rentals here and it is very effective.

Stopped using Craig's list for listings and for rentals quite awhile ago.

The 2 stupidest, creepiest, shadiest and most time-wasting consumers I have EVER MET in this business came through CL. It is a cesspool of criminal behavior. We recently fired a seller who INSISTED we use it. Our marketing plan is much better than that in attracting quality prospects.

No; steer clear. You do not need scammers 'capturing' your listing and renting it, or squatters.

It is interesting to read the answers. Like most activities in real estate the ultimate question is whether it is worth the time. I haven’t felt that CL was worth my time but glad to see others use it effectively.

I have had success advertising some of my listings on C.L.. Raw land in particular. You have to be careful tho.

Angelia Bynum I doubt if there are many people working on this anymore! At least no Craigslist post for my listings....I was already scammed twice and since then I have stopped it.

I won't go near it. Even if someone paid me to advertise there, I would say, no thanks. 

I don't use Craigslist any more.  Used to until the scam guys got out of control.

Everytime I have used Craigslist I have had scammers or problems. I do not have time to vet these leads. 

I don't get it...if you place a listing on the MLS it hits apx 98% of all Real Estate web sites...why go through the work when if we stick with our own web sites people WILL go to them if there isn't any other options.   We are creating more work for ourselves than we need to.

BE VERY CAREFUL!   I used Craigslist a few years ago for a one bedroom condo and had a stalker call me for a couple of weeks.
