Usually not unless it is homemade and I get the spiel about the recipe being in the family for centuries and it taste like no other.

Roger,
I have tried several different ones in my life, and I do not like it. We don't make it, and we don't have friend who make it either. Lucky us. My only fond association with fruitcake is Truman Capote's short story about making fruitcake and sending one to the President of the US. It is a lovely Christmas story, and it was his first published work by the New Yorker.

No! I don't even eat fruit. Why would I eat fruitcake? Not wasting my "sweet" calories on this!

I will have a taste ONLY if there is none of that horrible "plastic fruit" in it. I have been forced to make it on occasion and there's lots of booze in it and nuts too. Unfortunately, my husband and my Mother both love it! Boooooo

Home made fruitcake is delicious! It's those hard as a rock fruitcake memories from the 60's that still linger!

Roger - I think I was about 30 years old before I had a piece of fruitcake -- you know, it wasn't as bad as I thought -- of course, it's not something I go out of my way "to find". I hope your friend gets the response he/she needs/wants.

I have no interest in fruitcake. I would rather have moist brownies.

well thats a fruity question..... I tried once. I think I chipped a tooth or something so never again. Of course they would be good to store in the basement for the zombie apocalypse.

Some fruitcakes are good actually, best to eat slowly as they are very high calorie.

I will, but it's usually too sweet, and not my favorite. I'll also eat mincemeat pie!

Yes, I do like fruitcake. You may need to add a little run for a moist cake.

Depends on if its home made or not. I wont touch the store bought and have had a taste of a few good ones. One of my step mothers ( yes I had plenty....) Made fruit cake cookies and they were Delicious.

No, it's way too sweet for me. However, I do eat the German version, Stollen, which is a lot more doughy in between the dried fruit and not nearly as sweet.

I used to eat the fruitcake that my mother made and she gave me the recipe. It was really good. I don't make them anymore.

Maybe a piece, at least if it's laced with really great rum or bourbon.
1,506,163
These certain torts or cookies I've learned in cooking class, yes. Otherwise... no.
3,167,714
Yes I do. Not the ones you buy already made, but my mom makes a refrigerator fruitcake at the holidays and it's good.

I have honestly never even tried it, the chance has not come up. Perhaps I should invest in one myself just to try it!

Ugh, no. I hate fruit cake and always have. And, I later learned it has a ton of calories. There is no way I'm wasting calories on that. I'd rather have chocolate or tiramisu.
1,056,663
Can't remember the last time I actually was in possession of one TO eat.

Roger,
I probably haven’t given fruit cake a fair testing but what little I’ve tried wasn’t so good. I don’t eat it, I re-gift it.

Some fruitcakes are the byproduct of many weeks a caring and taste as though made by angels.
Somefruitcake is make in haste and turn out to be a waste.
I eat the former, discard the latter.
