Rainmaker vs. Ambassador has nothing to do w/ points.

Rainmaker means that you are a paying member and your posts are public...or once you've gotten to 500,000 pts it's free.

Ambassadors are pretty much volunteers...they are people who have volunteered to help new members of the community as they may need help.

It is not about points.  Ambassadors are great people who go out of their way to help the newbies, and also help the Active Rain staff understand the pulse of the community.  There are many who don't have the designation and are just as helpful like Debbie Gartner who knows so much more about Active Rain than anyone else in my opinion.  All in all this is a wonderful community of people who care.  A

Neither of these have anything to do with the number of points someone has on AR.

Not sure what you are asking since you can become Rainmaker any time, but you have to be ''invited'' to become Ambassador.

Rainmaker: Paying member

Ambassador: Someone chosen by AR to act as a brand ambassador (see the word usage) and to be a first level of support for the user community.  This is a standard practice in many industries and is actually taught in "social media 201" type classes.

As Bob Crane said, we Ambassadors get no extra points for being Ambassadors.  We just agreed to help people along the way as they try to make sense of the AR platform.

There is not one - ambassadors are nominated and chosen to be a help to the community.  

A rainmaker is simply someone who pays for their AR account and has access to SEO indexing.  There are some ambassadors with a relatively small amount of points, and some rainmakers with millions of points.

You work your way up the point scale until you get to 500,000 points.  You get a free Account.  The Ambassador has nothing to do with getting points.

This has more to do with the knowledge of the site...which I don't feel I qualify for even giving my national placement in the top 20

A Rainmaker is when you choose to pay to upgrade so the public can see your posts, you will see a $10 deduction for each 100k points you earn until you hit 500k and it is free. An Abassador is not ties to points, you are chosen based on your activity and reputation you make here in the Rain,

I was fortunate enough to be a rainmaker before they started charging but now I have over 700,000 points so it is moot.

Being an ambassador has nothing to do with points. You are a Rainmaker once you hit 500,000 points or if you pay a monthly fee if you have less than 500,000 points. This status makes your posts public and gives you good SEO. 

Ambassadors have been appointed by ActiveRain over the years based on various subjective criteria over the years.  The number of points does not determine if a person is an ambassador.
