When my mom was alive, and we had 25+ over for Thanksgiving. She always invited those who had no family close by.

Hiking and scaling the red rocks in Sedona AZ with Debbie. We had PBJ sandwiches for our meal of the day.

Good Friday morning Lise. I have a lot of fond memories of thanksgivings on the farm when I was growing up in southern Georgia.

My favorite memory has to be when I was about 9 years old. Went to California, spent the holiday with my dad and his new family. She has two kids close to my age and a large family. Food, fun, games. Mostly playing hide & seek outside up and down the street. No worries!

My favorite one was the first year I helped feed the homeless. A neighbor had been doing it and I happened to see him shopping. We started talking and I volunteered to help. We bought food to make aver a hundred nice sack lunches - including treats and juice or milk. Then we loaded it in the truck and drove into the areas where there were many homeless. I have done it since --0 but that was the best ever.

My best memory of Thanksgiving was probably when I was a kid and didn't have a care in the world and all my grandparents, aunts and uncles and parents were there with my brother and I.

Our first Thanksgiving in Paris--one of my best friends came to visit from NYC that week; we shopped all the open air markets. Had a crowd of "displaced" Americans with no where else to celebrate Thanksgiving over for dinner.

They are all fantastic; but watching the homeless and less fortunate getting a meal is fortunate as well.

Me roasting a Turkey 20-25 pounder over a slow fire for about 5 hours basted in its own juices and spices with an aroma, presentation, and taste that does not fail for memories. I had a water pistol for flare-ups, plenty to read, tasty drink, dip in the pool, jacuzzi and a short nap here and there during this. The meat just drifted off the bones gently into your mouth..True Bible food here

In a different life, I have the privilege of hosting my mother for Thanksgiving day. At the table that day, my mother, and a guests from Russia, Slovakia, Brasil, Indonesia, Belarus, Italy, Germany, India, Singapore and many of them brought friends.
At one point Mother put down the fork, "I need to say something." Never in her life, she shared, could she have dreamed such a day to see so many whom she actually knew from all over the world.
That day I was thankful for the opportunity to introduce her to the world in a way few ever experience.
That one ranks up there along the top.

When I got married at 18 and hosted my first Thanksgiving for 7 adults and 3 kids. I spent a lot of time talking to my Mom across the country asking questions. But I was very proud I could do it, and grateful my Mom taught us all how to cook starting at age 11.

Every year at my maternal grandma's house until sh passed away in 1980.
She was Italian/French and boy could she cook & bake. She made Holidays magical for us as kids. We were never the same as a family after she passed away. But the 1970's was an awesome decade to be a kid in my family.
But, Ailina and I started a new tradition in 2004, since travel is impossible at Thanksgiving, we stay home, get turkey dinner for two from CoCo's and eat it on the futon with a movie and some Prosecco. It's a Thanksgiving picnic, it's romantic and peaceful. My son is traditionally at his mother's for turkey day and we're the only family in San Diego.

I don't have one favorite, but my favorite memories at Thanksgiving are made each year since I've been married and had my daughters. They make my memories magical. I love to see them gathered with family and enjoying themselves, smiling and eating and being loved.

Good question Lise, has me thinking that it is a holiday that I have not taken enough time to really enjoy, generally lucky if I stop for dinner.
And this year I did not even make it home from our project in the Adirondacks.

It would be my Dad saying each year that this is the best Thanksgiving ever. He isn't here to say that anymore but I think about it and he has a place in my heart. Thanksgivng was his favorite holiday and he would stand in the middle of the kitchen, watching, nibbling and anticipating.

I'd have to say the year I went to the Proud Bird off of LAX's approach path and they had BBQ ribs. No meal has topped that yet or come close since!

Lise - My best memories of Thanksgiving were at my Aunt and Uncle's home when I was younger. They used to get members of both sides of the family together and have a super meal. Everybody would make an effort to be there. They would set up tables in the garage, because literally there would be 50-60 family members. After the meal, we would play games, or watch football, and snack all night. It was a great memory of times I was able to spend with family members I may not see but this one time every year.
