I do Happy New Year cards - more memorable since later and stands out from the crowd. And, no religious issues.

I stopped sending Christmas cards about 5 years ago or more. When I overhear "civilians" discuss the insurance agent or the plumber sending them cards and how hollow they feel this is, I know not to send anything. I do like Debbie Gartner 's idea of New Years greetings!

Depends on the client. Happy holidays for those who aren't Christian. Merry Christmas for those who are.

Used to send out Christmas and Hanukkah cards; no longer. I never once was reciprocated. NANA, Zilch, nothing, not even a phone call.

I try to sort out my clients by what and how they celebrate - some are very religious (any faith) and others are more the snowmen type.

No. I think they get lost with the ton of other cards people receive.

If I know it will be a card for the one they celebrate; otherwise it will be generic of which I would rather not send.

A tradition exists within the community to whom I send Christmas cards. That tradition is to make a display, preferably on a tree, of all cards received. The card selection begins with. "Will this make a good tree ornament?" Then "Joy to the World," or "Peace on Earth" or "He is born," are the messages preferred.
I have yet to read a person of Jewish persuasion, or Muslim or Church of God or Hindu or Sheik or Rastafarian or Baha`i debate if they should change the message of their Holy Days to accommodate "non-believers." Quite the opposite. Others view Christians who are so lacking of faith and courage to be members of a faithless society also know as infidels.

I prefer sending Thanksgiving cards to clients. Many families the DC area are not Christians.

I do not send out cards in December to anyone. It gets lost in the shuffle. Instead I take them each a gift. That they will remember!

I send Christmas cards and some other cards. I know my clients, and know what they celebrate.

Bill - I have not send out holiday cards, but I like the idea of sending out Happy New Year cards that Debbie Gartner mentioned.

I usually send a card to everyone I have worked with during the year. Some people I make sure they receive a merry Christmas rather than a more neutral greeting.

Why send out a Christmas card if you're going to skirt around the issue?

I don't send cards anymore....when I did, it was always Merry Christmas.... that's what I celebrate....

I do not refer to any holiday by name to be honest with you, it is "happy holiday's" or have a safe and happy holiday. If it is 4th of July, whatever. Why draw the line at a certain holiday? Opinions vary and I really dont know what will or will not offend someone.
1,658,008
Yes, Happy Holidays is the safest way to go. If I know for sure what they celebrate, I'd adjust the card and a time of sending.
2,365,271
In the past, I always chose the card I liked the picture and sentiment. I never thought much about it until it became politically incorrect to say "Merry Christmas". So, now, I only send cards that say "Merry Christmas". I am celebrating the birth of Christ. It is the Christmas season, so I say Merry Christmas.
And... I NEVER send a card without a personal note. If I don't know the person well enough to send a note, then it is shallow to send them one. I don't like to receive cards like that, and I don't send them.
Amen.

It is Merry Christmas to those I send to or meet. If I know they are of a different religous grouping, I will wish them well at that time also

Merry Christmas & Season's Greetings! I've said it all my life. I'm not wishing religion on them, I'm wishing the spirit of the season on them and it is one of the major seasons of December. Same as you wouldn't be offended if someone said "Aloha!" to you while in Maui, while in December, we must accept different greetings as just that, a friendly greeting.

I do a little of both since I try to cater to my clients. Most are "Happy Holidays" though.
