dont even go there with mold.... the entire mold story is sooooo bs and over blown. the correct application of what ever type of insulation is important. 2. more is better when it comes to insulation

It is used quite often up here and I've never heard any horror stories!   (I agree with Mike Rock with regard to the mold blow up! )  See what I did there ha ha

I've seen it used here in Charlotte and have not heard of any issues to-date.

It is being used here in Southwest Florida. Those who have it love it and their reduced utility costs!

Good morning David. I use it for home that are older and that don't have any insulation. It has worked out very well.

Properly installed it has been a good choice.

I love it, my parents used it 4 years ago and their house is so very efficent.

Everything I have heard is that it is more expensive and better than what is used now as it fills every crevice.  If that is true, then mold cannot grow if there are no crevices.  However, I am not a scientist, and I would find someone who does this type of research to really get the facts straight. The problem would be the cause of the moisture.  I have not heard much  about the spray insulation, but we have it and have never had a problem with it.

I am not an expert but have not heard of any major issues.

There is more than one type of spray foam insulation, and it is common to see it used in all new construction around here. Never heard anything about it leading to mold, and I've seen it used since the 80's. People still overreact to mold. When they go to their phyciatrist and are shown those weird shapes and drawings, and the doctor asks them what they see, most of them say " Mold"

For drywall and outside that is the way to go.....Rats can get in if one uses fiberglass insulation...

It's used often in New Mexico. 

Generally no issue with mold, unless intrusion from a roof leak. It is closed cell so no moisture absorption. It also helps to bond the roof sheathing to the roof trusses, etc.

I think the best insulation is rigid foam that's installed in the bays between the members.... 

I see it a lot here in Louisville, but must admit I don't know much about it. However since mold is such a big issue these days, I would assume that they has been accounted for, or they would not use it.

David, this is very good educational question.

Depends on the type of foam, some adhere well and expand others are rigid and do not adhere well as time goes by.

David Baker Realtor - Laveen Homes for sale my inspector mentioned that this is the NEW trend - however, I don't have much clue on merits of spray foam insulation.

I think it is easier to apply because it is blown in, so less intrusive, hence cheaper, but over time loses its effectiveness; not as good as more traditional insulation.

I had not heard of the mold issue, but spraying a cove product over the foam makes it last longer

I'm pretty familiar with this, and I had a dog that became very intimate with it. LOL. The poor thing. He stepped on a can of it. He weighed close to 150 pounds. The can spray foamed this foot. His footpads were spray foamed together. He walked really funny for a few days. 

Sounds like it needs the opinion of an expert.  Outside my area of knowledge.

In my opinion if it is professionally done there should be no problems; As Jay Markanich has said if Uncle Joe it may not be done correctly or look professional.

I would ask a couple home inspectors for their objective oobservation of this product.

Maryland has been promoting this through tax credits. Had it done to my house in the Attic. My HVAC contractor said it would extend the life of my heat pump by eliminating the extreme hot & cold temperatures in the Attic. It has been well worth it in my opinion. BTW: It keeps the stink bugs out also !
