I had a client once ask me this question long before considering putting the house on the market. There was only one bath in the home and the tub was removed and a large walk-in shower installed -- when it came time to sell, I was a bit concerned but the end product was terrific and there were multiple offers. Most people prefer having a tub available but it really depends on the property and the buyer pool.

I live in a tubless home for years. No need for the bath if one accepts it

I have found that buyers like to have a bath tub in the home. I personally would suggest to a seller to have at least one tub in the home.

We can only make decisions for ourselves. No one knows who the next owner of their home will be nor what they will desire. Live in your home in the best way for you and your situation. Life is too short to do otherwise!

That is funny you should ask that question since I did show a few homes yesterday without tubs and the buyers commented that they really do not wish to give up a tub.
I would never recommend it as it narrows the potential buyers at resale.

If you are thinking about resale, you have to have a tub in one of the bathrooms.

No I would recommend at least one tub in the house. Not everyone is a shower person and some people have back problems and like to soak it out.

No . . . BUT in our area which is resort, vacation and retirement . . . homes without tubs are often requested, and we see them a lot more in new builds. I still think that at least one 'full bath' with tub and shower should be in a house. Resale!

No... NEVER! You always have to think of resale and, as Debbie Gartner said, it would reduce resale value by reducing the pool of prospective buyers... families with kids in particular. It is a mistake not to consider resale when they are remodeling.

I would think that would reduce resale value and timing. It definitely cuts you off families w/ kids. And, of course those who like bathtubs (like moi). We also used our bathtub (occasionally) for the dog so it also might have an impact for dog owners.

If it's in a neighborhood catering more to "older" people, yes... they often don't want the hassle of trying to get in and out of a tub. We have a number of 55+ communities that build no tubs in the master bath; secondary bathrooms do have them however.

Agree that families w/kids like tubs.
Most houses have more than one bathroom, so converting one to tubless I don't see affecting it's market value. Most 1 bath houses aren't for families, so again, I don't see it being a problem for resale.

Funny but we were talking about the walk in shower last night at dinner with friends. I wouldn't recommend excluding a tub because even if someone didn't really use it, they'd view it as something "missing" from the house. It cold impact resale value.

I always suggest trying to keep one, especially if its a home that a family may want to buy someday. Hard to bathe babies in a shower.

Sally and David - It still amazes me how many people still utilize a tub. As far as our family, we could completely do without a tub.
However, for resale, there should probably at least be one combo shower/tub in the home because of that popularity.

No tub at all? No, not having one in the master bath is typically not a bad thing...but no tub at all, would be an issue for most home buyers.

No, I think it is important for future resale and possibly a buyer who does not care about a tub today will decide a few months from now that it was a mistake not to include a tub.

As a professional kitchen and bathroom designer and Home Stager, I would recommend, if there is only one bathroom to extend it to have it big enough for a tub and a walk in shower. Walk in showers are certainly highly appreciated, but there is also a need for at least 1 tub in the house. A seller should have this in mind before putting the house on the market.
With a smart configuration also a small bathroom can be fitted with both.

NO ....There is always at least one family member that wants a tub ....
1,713,581
I am seeing this more often now in new construction. However, marketing usually will dictate a separate tub and shower in larger homes.

Should definitely have at least one tub in the house. We have 4 baths, and two have tubs, and three walk in showers.

Good morning Sally. Every home should have at least one tub, has always been what we create when we do a flip, but I don't usually have them in the master.
4,322,295
Sally K. & David L. Hanson surprisingly enough, some buyers look forward to tub! May be for kids and bubble bath?
1,660,528
It depends on the size of the property.
Yet, since we have such a busy life styles and CA experiences a severe drought period, a tab requests becomes less and less popular. Ladies want to have it, even if they do not use it.
3,227,142
I don't make that kind of recommendation. Other than my own decisions, I have only made suggetions to family.
3,764,591
It really depends on the buyer's preference. It's always easy to slip a tub into a large shower space.

Definitely not.
We built a small cabin on a canal. Just the two of us. Big tile shower. Was fine at the time.
A friend build their own home and did not think they would miss a bath tub. So wrong! She would love a bubble bath and now with grand babies she has no tub.
Resale value is another reason I would suggest at least one bathtub in the house.

no, not really, but the Japanese soaking tubs are wonderful for soaking the muscles.. depends on if it is their last home or any chance of resale
