Sandra - I sold my in-laws home and helped my uncle buy a home, and both worked out just fine. No other family lives nearby, so the best I could do with them is perhaps a referral.

I've helped relatives buy and sell a few times and it's always been fine. It's business and I approach it that way.

I have not nor would I want to.  I did not even sell either of the two homes I owned.  Too much pressure to deal with.  Mark

I'm not in real estate...I do floors.

I did some flooring project for my parents.  It was kind of hard...it took my mom forever to decide.  Much more challenging vs working w/ normal customers.  They respect my expertise more.  Although, now, after a few projects my mom now looks at me as an expert (and not just her daughter).

I did and it worked out fine.... but it's not normally something I like to do....I'd rather have another agent in the office handle it....

Sandra, I have helped four of my family members in real estate transactions. Would I do it again? Yes....keep in mind they do expect certain treatment, if you don't mind catering to them, it's worth it. 

I haven't because I've never worked in any area where I had a family member selling a home. I have helped them find the right agent to sell or buy in their local area, however.

I did help a close relative to sell and buy a home - and that was thoroughly professional experience.

Most likely, I will help them with some investment properties soon.

I am abused and criticized and treated like mom. It is very difficult to get a family member to have a professional relationship with you when you are very close.

I've done CMA's for family.  They didn't like the numbers and stayed put.

I disclosed I am related to the seller. On the commission I charge enough to make it reasonable.  The good part is my daughter-in-law was very quiet and so it was me and my relative.  She moved in when relative has the house.

After it was staged she took an interest stating may be she would want to get into that business. She has sold/bought homese for her big family and friends as a default family licensee in Chicago.

I referred on recently, worked out very well.

Several times, and each time it's had a happy ending.  Not so sure it's a great idea if you are a newbie agent without great supervision.
