Carly Horsman I agree with Ron and Alexandra Seigel and will add this. You can post a reply to the review and I would keep it simple and say something like "difficult client". Everyone knows that there are some people you will never make happy.

Carly, that is so sad! Hopefully you have references already online from past clients talking you up.  In my humble opinion, you need to comment on the platform but do not slander them in return.

Those Z or Yelp all often are faked rave reviews.  There are paid professional reviewers post for a fee. People do not go to Z look for agent's testimonial. Yelp is the site customer want to blast at agents often from little things.

I read your recent Z review they merely said you were not local specialist and could not come up with the best comp.  I can always find comps by expanding distance and denote assumptions.  Apparently, during release of agency relationship there was misunderstanding.  Move on and get better clients to work.  Work on listings.

Carly,

If what they put in writing is false, you need to consult an attorney who can send them a letter to cease and desist, as well as one to Zillow and Trulia.  Don't take it personally (I know it is easy to say,). and here is is what I would suggest you do.  Sit down and make a list of all your successes in real estate, in life, etc.  Really sit there and take the time to look at what you have accomplished.  You will feel so much better.  Keep adding to that list, and keep it handy, anytime someone gets you down, read it.

Funny enough my husband and I wrote a post about this very thing today.  This is a classic client trap.  Next time, you will recognize the signs, and you will run away from them before you get involved.  A

I had seen a negative comment on a site years ago, and contacted the company and said there is no way I had any interaction with a client that year, and they removed the comment.

Post a professional response to the negative recommendation. If you which make reference to the volume of additional reviews that establish an entirely different outcome with other home sellers.

Then in a month or so...when the culprits activity has subsided. hire that south pacific company to post 10 or 15 positive reviews that will push the bad one off the screen.

One bad review only shows you live in the real world where few are willing to accept responsibility for their actions.

That is sad and I'm sorry that has happened to you.  My advice is to see if there is a way to reply to review.  But, do so professionally.  make it short and sweet and have others review.  You want to make that reviewer look bad without making you look bad or stooping to their level.

And, you want to make a concentrated effort to get many good reviews from your clients to shift the balance. It is okay to have 1 bad review if you have 10 great ones.  People understand no one is perfect and there are unreasonable clients.  Ironically, it will help make your good reviews more legitimate.

Just respond on line in a professional manner and then ask some other clients to go and post good reviews.  When the good are in the majority anyone reading will know who the problem really was.

Carly, not good!  Most of these types of sites with ratings will allow the recipiant of a bad review to respond.  Someone here sued Yelp about a false review.

I have heard that Z is of no help in these situations, with this kind of slander you may get more results with a letter from a good attny or a cease order from a judge.
