Goodness Vegas, I am surprised you have to ask. That would be Sandpoint Idaho and I happen to know an Excellent Realtor who well take good care of you while searching for your dream retirement home. Mark

I don't really know, but many people in this area of VA retire to SC, NC, or GA, and some go to PA or FL. Some states don't tax retirement income. Others just move further South in VA.

Similar to buying a home, I think the choice of a retirement location depends on lifestyle choices and individual preferences. For example, I prefer a college town where I can continue educaitonal pursuits, but also where the cost of living is reasonable, and there is a healthy cultural element (good art, food, music, etc.) There are many good books, and even websites, that rate retirement locations by crime, cost of living, housing costs, employment, etc.

Good morning Alaska Bob. I don't see myself moving unless I am forced to, see myself in Connecticut until I am no longer here.

My husband & I have traveled to many great sections of USA BUT love coming home to Erie, PA
A few years ago we opted NOT to purchase second home in warmer, sunnier location as many of our friends have.

I guess the answer to this is all relative to a person's interest, nest eggs, and relationships. :)
But here is something interesting I learned a while back. Besides the tax-free situation in FL, a reason why the elderly like to retire there is the 'easier' access to affordable pharmaceuticals. I can't site specific data on that but I believe CNN had reported it.

The Villages, in Florida! They have everything, including a VA Hospital. That would be a retirement village where you drive golf carts around town.
Until then, Elkhart, Indiana is a great place to call home.

It all comes down to dollars and sense. If you have the dollars an expensive place makes sense. If not back east somewhere in a safe community.
