I vote for clean, then price, and then breakfast. Oh, also add "safe" too. I like to venture out at dinner and other meals, and like to feel safe in the areas that I am walking.

Cleanliness would be number one; you can always find a good place to eat!

Of course it must be clean. Location is probably #1 for me.  After that price. I always want a good deal.

I am huge on cleanliness. I am that guest that does a walk around and checks under the sheets before I bring all my stuff in. As far as price I don't mind after all you get what you pay for.

William Feela I prefer to stay near the conference location - or at least have an easy commute to location. I do not like to drive to the location and pay hefty parking fees.

Now if I am on vacation, of course, price, cleanliness and breakfast are important, too.

Quality, quality, quality. If it is a quality hotel it will be clean, quiet and have a good breakfast.

A firm mattress!  Since buying a tempurpedic mattress a few years ago, it's gotten difficult to sleep on poor quality mattresses.

When our daughter was in college, we traveled to New England often to see her and spent a lot of time in hotels. We sometimes traded clean for price and were always sorry. Couldn't care less about breakfast, although it's nice when one of us wants to sleep late so that the other doesn't need to wait to eat.

William Feela - I consider price, BUT I take everything into consideration: free breakfast (e.g., Hampton Inn), free in-room wifi that isn't weak and lame, free parking (if I'm driving or renting a car), and in-room microwave and small-refrigerator so I can have some meals in (not room service prices). Some hotels charge separately for wifi and parking your car, so you have to do your homework.  I generally stay at medium-priced hotels, so I've never stayed at one that wasn't clean.

I seldom break down and rent one but when I do, Great Internet is essential.

I prefer a B&B over a hotel. If I have to stay in a hotel I bring my own pillow and it must be quiet, safe and clean, and I like to stay on the first or second floor.

The breakfasts are not important. Many have a hot bar breakfast and it is mostly carbs and that doesn't set well with me. Clean is most important and up to date. Then price and location.

Clean ~ that would be the most important for me. I never have breakfast, just coffee, so that is the least important perk.

NO BED BUGS!   Price is usually a factor, but if you stay with a known name, hopefully no bugs.  Breakfast is always nice.
