My former brokerage held weekly meetings on Mondays.
- They were supposed to begin at 9am and NEVER did. Mistake #1.
- Never did we have any new info shared.
- People continued to talk on the phone.
- No food was ever provided.
- New agents were intimidated by seasoned agents rhyming off their sales or listings for the previous week, having nothing to report themselves.
- No tips or techniques were ever shared.
- I can't remember them ever being 100% attended.
I'm getting too depressed bringing all this back . . . Sooooooo glad I changed Brokerages

Pat -- we have a weekly meeting -- in fact, Tuesday. Some meetings are better than others --- I'm looking forward to today where there are two speakers discussing a new upscale retirement community and a senior transition company. There are far too many meetings that are a waste of time in my opinion.

My broker has one every week, to be exact actually an hour from now. It is supposed to begin at 10, but usually 10:15 or 10:20. Of course I always have my iPad there or phone, so I am always busy until it starts.
Usually a presentation by a lender, or estate seller, then we discuss new listings, buyer needs, then caravan till around 1-2 pm.
As you can see, I am not going today....as is often the case. Am I bad?

One of the reasons I like my company is that we have no weekly or monthly sales meetings. We have two company wide meetings per year and a monthly Lunch & Learn.

Have free food and they will come! The former brokerage had monthly meetings and one of the guests would sponsor breakfast. We'd get about 80% attendance by doing that.

To have a meeting for the sake of having one...which seems to be the case in tooooo many brokerages erodes attendance if done weekly...less frequent and more interesting...ahhhh

We have four agents in our office. No set marketing/business meetings per se as we can easily get together to discuss any issues as they come up.

There is a weekly "NEWBIE" meeting each Tuesday and if not an emergency I attend to assist in whatever way possible. Afterwards we have a regular one that has someone come in for as a speaker and generally good info that even the "NEWBIES" do not attend. Too many feel they know it all and when the SHTF they say should have!

WEEKLY? You can not. That is too many business meetings and is a big red flag indicating oppressive micromanagement.
However, if I were tasked with turning this sow's ear into a silk purse I would create controversy which would lead to a principle of business.
For example, the number one trending blog on AR right now is titled something like "How I lost a million dollars..." and lots of folks engaged with that conversation.
By the way, controversy is that which folks are conversing about.
In the above I actually modeled two methods of how to get folks to the meeting.
Just make sure those in attendance receive the refreshing spring water they need and not a pile of dry bones. You can not blame agents for refusing to sit before a presentation of dry old bones that have no value to them.

When I was affiliated with a brokerage there were office meetings. They were a waste of my time - no value ... mostly sales pitches from third party vendors, title companies, etc. Not even free food would get me to go to those meetings. My time is too valuable.

We have meetings every other week that I do not attend. If they had information that was helpful to my business, I would go. Instead my company uses these meetings to do the RAH RAH, Look how great the company is doing and then has a vendor there to talk for 45 minutes on their business.
I can't afford to be away from my business for 1.5 hours for a cheerleading session and does nothing for my business.

this is a mixed bag, im not sure there is one right method or answer.everyone likes food for sure. and amazing content is important..and doing belly to belly as Thomas J. Nelson, Realtor always allows for bonding and people "hearing" what is actually said. i like smaller teams and small meetings less often. new people have much different needs..anyway i think its important as long as they are productive. i also think teleconference is good and or recorded videos that they can view at their leisure

Our brokerage has a monthly meeting, some people present pocket listings they have which one of my clients might fit.
For my team we meet weekly, I don't think once a month is enough to run an office or team at a high level.

Once a month - much of it promotional - of the company, sponsors, profit share. I'd prefer more real disscussion of issues/opportunities in the business and market and less "show".

1,209,215
Our office has sales meetings every other month during the busy season, and monthly during the slower seasons. There's no reason to have a weekly meeting in my opinion. Agents should be out selling!

I loathe Team Meetings. I've never found them of any value. I was at RE/MAX before leaving for KW and we had them maybe once a month or quarterly. We had a nice breakfast and it was fun seeing each other. We usually kept it to legal updates, new forms and perhaps some market trends or specific RE/MAX promos or benefits for agents. At KW we've had 6 teams leads in the past 9 years so getting a set meeting type has been trying. We had a great new team leader who brought me up to speed on "Market Leader" and he in turn asked me to attend the office meetings. I came back and he wasn't there--he was let go! I attend our local Marketing Meeting for broker's opens and sharing our haves/wants on Tuesday. I moderate the meeting and have for 20+ years. We have all the speakers I can take at this meeting. I don't need ANOTHER meeting about real estate. Shoot me an email if there's something important. I also attend a leads group on Wednesday morning and Rotary on thursday morning. Enough!

Food. We always have a light lunch provided as well as a "haves and wants" section of time where we can talk freely! It also starts at noon and is only 45 minutes to an hour!
282,018
Monthly and I go if I can, I am usually too busy making the broker money so they don't really mind my not being there. I do read the prepared notes and will re cap with my manager when needed.
47,564
The meeting is Wednesday at 11:30, and starts within two to three minutes of that time. They allow vendors to sponsor (Free Food), but the presentation from any one is limited to five minutes each and there is a timer on the screen with a countdown. We are then presented with stats on our market share to use for listing presentations, then anything relevant to our business and any issues that have come up (teaching moment). It has an element of the ra-ra but so often you walk out inspired by the team leader to go after what you deserve. They always end in 1 hour and if the team leader goes over, it is free food on him at the next meeting, so it does not happen often. They are fun meetings and well attended each week, so get there early is the motto.
2,061,864
We have a weekly "strongly suggested attendance" meeting.
the first meeting of the month, our managing broker supplies food... each and every meeting we have new information supplied by our broker. new stats, new promotions... and he tries to keep it short (sometimes he fails)... but always interesting.
Afterward, we caravan to our new listings. We get a pretty good turnout, but it's never 100%. And as Martin points out... as independent contractors, we can't be "required" to attend.
6,393,609
We're used to back in the old days when people had to come to the office to do office work nowadays everybody works from home except for a core few of us.
428,933
We have a bi-weekly office meeting. Our manager does an awesome job of keeping us engaged as well as the vendors that come in to tell us about their specific services. Oh, and then there's the FOOD!
617,935
I don’t have a weekly meeting but for agents I mentor you have to make the topic interesting AND something they can actually use.
392,768
We don't have a formal weekly business meeting, however we have a monthly meeting. Our monthly meeting includes updates on lending changes, new forms, how to protect ourselves and clients, and of course a tour of new listings.
438,218
I think its a great idea patricia. Im sure there are a ton of vendors that would love to get in front of a group of agents give a pitch and training..
1,239,901
food..... Great speakers.
Why? Because people will work for food, just joking...
Most come to network with other agents.....
2,443,250
I am the Broker and no I don't have a weekly meeting. It would be pulling teeth to get them all together at the same place at the same time.
1,390,113
First part of your question - we have meetings bimonthly.
Second part - he doesn't :(
644,025
We have a weekly meeting and I like them.
Meeting starts on time, we sometimes have speakers but we have so many that want to present that we vote whether they get an invitation so we don't have lender after lender after lender and title co after title co after home inspector etc.
A few times a year we have free CE classes.
Our meetings are a lot current changes in the industry, a chance to share problems and solutions (NOT whiny complaints, lol), and go over inventory, new listings, etc...
I guess part business meeting part Mastermind group.
Attendance is not mandatory but the people who attend most regularly are the top producing agents, coincidence? I don't think so..
764,882
Interesting to see the different responses, I typically speak with all of my agents each and every week, however as we grow we will start having monthly "happy hours", I believe they will be much better attended than the traditional meetings, and agents can really get to know one another.
532,983
The agents have to feel like it is worth the effort to come, so the broker needs to provide valuable information if they want good attendance.
2,362,977

Being an independant I don't have weekly sales meeting but after reading Susan Emo 's post I could totally see why these meetings will fail if not done correctly.
As an aside I think meetings for the sake of having meetings are a bad idea.
607,326
At my first brokerage we had meetings every week, followed by a compulsory tour or everyone's new listings - a waste of a whole day. My second brokerage had no meetings at all.
My present company has it just right - two meetings a month, well-prepared, with relevant information about new policies, the market, and ever-changing government regulations.
1,422,591
I have quit going and broker knows why. The meetings start by letting each agent say what they'd like and some of them are TOO long-winded. Therefore if there is any business to be handled it is after the agents are through talking. I have said that when business is discussed first I will start attending.
977,386
We do not have weekly business meetings due to the distances some would need to travel. We hold conference calls instead to go over what is necessary. Once per quarter we may meet at a central location.
1,157,785
The brokerage generally has monthly meetings that are optional. It sometimes also brings in additional speakers on a second day in the month. Some agents go to all of the meetings but some only go if the topics are of interest to them. Some agents rarely, if ever, go to to the meetings.
261,342
We have about 3 meetings a month. My broker always has something to say. He keeps it fresh.
5,005,659
Our Broker has office meetings twice a month and you don't want to miss them! They are fun (drawings & prizes), informative (always relevant topics) and well worth the time spent!! We have a good time and most all agents attend!!!
657,208
As an owner, this is an interesting discussion. I'm so happy no one brought up the "you can't force independent contractors to come to meetings" argument. Because that's when I get to argue that I am hiring them to be agents and not pseudo-attorneys, but if they want to work with my brand, they need to get certain information - one way is by attending the meetings. But, agents who want to be mentors or participate in leadership development and coaching need to step up and participate in meetings and caravans, that goes without saying.
3,988,007
He doesn't. There hasn't been a good one in years and I only go out of respect and to show fellow agents I am a team player.
3,164,294
monthly and I always do a three hour CE class along with the meeting. They need hours, they come.
2,224,473
We only have three agents in our office. We use to have a regular weekly meeting. Then my broker changed the day, and I kept forgetting to show up. So we canceled the weekly meetings. I guess they were no fun when I wasn't there. LOL. Just joking.
Now we have meetings whenever something comes up. It's pretty easy to get three people together to have a meeting about something.
911,338
763,883
Weekly meetings and caravans are important for new or newer agents. Once in the business three or more years they are aggravating. I won't miss meeting with legal issues though or those related to the community or new homes.
699,277
4,319,419
Yes Patricia Kennedy .
We do have meetings every other week. Not only we have a guest speaker, we do discuss about the trends, market stats, wants and needs and take from our vendor partners.
It's lot of fun!
5,772,575
Patricia,
We had meetings that were intended to teach all of us. Ron and I would invite people who had information that we could use. For example, we invited one of the best real estate attorneys to explain all the issues involved with a certain standard document we all used. A
