No, not at all. Maybe a little, very little. I thought of the licensing courses largely as a gatekeeper of sorts and the renewal courses as revenue makers.

Richie, most of the continuing ed classes in this area are not really relevant to what we do every day for a living.

No, but the courses lay the framework to keep new agents out of trouble if they follow all the rules. Will they be able to sell? Not a chance!

Seriously? Of course not! At best licensing teaches you (maybe) how to stay out of real estate jail. But nothing about the reality of managing a real estate practise.

Richie, probably not. Because RE licensing courses mostly teach the law. While, real life RE teach marketing. Very good question.

Richie Alan Naggar we all know the difference between getting a real estate license and practicing real estate!
Hope they include something like internship - what Doctors and few other professions have - before they start independent practice (or even before they hang the license with any broker.)

No, not really but they do provide a basic understanding of terminology and real estate law on which to build a working knowledge of the business.

The course that I took did a good job covering ethics and legal issues but did absolutely nothing regarding writing a contract or even the day to day business of being a realtor.

Good morning Richie. If you are asking the question for the same reason the same would be true for the mortgage industry, it is truly a joke.

Richie,
They do cover important theory topics agents need to know. But in the limited hours required, they can’t begin to teach much practical information.

Definitely not in Pennsylvania. When I took the sales licensing courses, if you asked a question involving real life real estate, the instructor simply stated that she could not answer that question because that is "real life". continuing ed I have found to be irrelevant, also. Now Broker courses, that is completely different.

Richie Alan Naggar No, the courses never matched up with real life real estate. The sole purpose for the licensing courses is to give a back ground in real estate laws, etc and pass the exam.

If a real estate agent's education begins and ends with the license course, that agent is doomed. Prelicense courses don't even scratch the surface of all the information that a competent agent needs to know.
