I tend to fill out surveys if I love or hate the thing in question Debbie.

It depends on what the survey is about. I will take one for my local title company or state organization. Generally, though, I don't have time for this kind of thing.

Debbie,
I am extremely selective with that. I do one for our car dealer and car service. Their jobs and reviews are dependent of these surveys. Since we have had superb service and amazing instances with the firm, I do take the time and plow through their 20 page survey.
With others, I don't. It seems to me that many of the companies who ask are not aware of the time it takes to fill out. JD Powers sent us one re our car 25 pages and they had enclosed a new $1.00
We were shopping at a very nice new retail center. Someone approached us and offered us each an AMEX gift card (worth $25 each) to answer 3 questions promising to take 3 minutes of our time. We did it. We appreciated the gesture, and $25 for 3 minutes just over $8. a minute was worth it. A

In some cases. I do the NAR market condition reports every month, as well as for the Kansas City Federal Reserve Beige Book. I also do surveys coming from MD Anderson for cancer survivors to help contribute to their research. After that it depends on the benefit but I am not enticed to do one because they promise a potential reward.

I study marketing campaigns so I do take time to answer surveys or sign up for a free report (or whatever else they give as a freebie) When I fill out a survey, I know full well they just want to get my email address. Then I see how they follow up with their marketing. I have several email addresses used to separate random surveys and subscriptions from my primary email box.

I do exactly what Noah Seidenberg does. I won't fill out a survey to say "everything is just about the way it should be". There would be no point. I will fill out a survey to either cheer for something a company is doing extrememly well (so that they keep doing it) or to see some kind of a change because what they are doing now stinks.

The ones that they tell me they are short and will only take five minutes but actually take 20 minutes are a pain. I will start and if I find it goes on and on I will bail on them.

Debbie, the only time I will do a quick survey is if it pertains to customer service that I just received. I want for who ever was helping me and exceeding expectations to get credit for it. I try to use their name in the survey whenever possible. mark

Debbie,
The National Association of Realtors send me surveys to fill out as a Broker. I do complete them because they are important to our industry. If they are not related to real estate, I delete.

I did one today from my old employer. Half way through it turned into a pediatric care survey and I don't have kids. I gave them many comments about asking if the participant has kids first!
For me, it all depends on how much time I have, who is asking and if I have something to say.
