Everyone wants to be honest. Every morning they get out of bed with the intent of being honest.
Then the cost becomes evident. Our society shames those who are truly honest. "Do these jeans make me look fat?"
The only way to retain the value system of the previous generation if is the parents of the new generation accepted their responsibility to teach their kids to reject the values of the society in which they live.
If you are not having dinner everyday with your family, society IS teaching your kids. And it's being done from the front of the classroom and even worse, (if there could be a worse) from the device connected to the end of your cable service..

The politically correct answer would be yes. The honest answer is no.

I believe the world will always have the same percentage of good and evil but in today's world, we hear more of it because we are better connected to each other and have 24/7 worldwide news. Bad news sells !

Michael Thornton Not sure on the "honest" versus "dishonest - would have to defer to crime statistics for more insight - although they may not reflect the whole picture. "Same value system" - I don't think so. It's different. Better? Worse? Don't know. But I do know that today folks when in a face to face social setting spend far too much time interacting with folks who are not physically present via phones, tablets, etc. Wasn't an option for the previous generation. They are interested in getting rich scheme with a gimmick or idea. One would be going to MBA school come up with subprime loan or replicating all MLS listing as a 3rd party internet site gouging billion dollars out of uninformed adults.
It is too hard to learn about science and coding. Lets allowing more H1b visa holders.....

Michael,
Cicero, a Roman philosopher born in 107 BC asked the same question in his time? The previous generation talked of the world "going to hell in a handbasket", I think every generation thinks that way. It depends where you want to focus...I see so much excellence and so many wonderful people, it is a joy! A

I'm not a politically correct person, but I'm a student of philosophy, so...
I think most people are honest and are kind. That said, I do know the pain- first hand of a dishonorable family member, false friends and disloyal clients in my past, not all people are good I know. I think the ratios don't change much generation to generation though, I think more are good than bad, it's human nature to be good.
9/11 was an example of (some) evil committing a crime and the (many) displaying the greatest human of behaviors; care, love and generocity...resolving to help each other through it and beyond it.
But, I go through life with a great gut instinct that never fails me (I've failed it...but not it me). I trust until it's time not to, Sometimes it's right away, sometimes it's lost or taken, but most of the time I trust the right people and they reward me for it.
You get in life what you seek & what you think about. "As a man thinketh, so shall he be." You are exactly where you are, who you are, because of how you are. How you see the world, is how the world behaves for you...but only you. Each person's experience creates the world they see & experience uniquely.
As my wonderful mentor Jim Rohn used to say, "for your world to change, you have to change. Don't wish it were easier, wish you were better. Don't wish for less problems, wish for more solutions."

Not at all; society has eroded and is pushing to new lows. Perhaps it is my expectations being fulfilled, but taking this pessimistic approach has been instrumental in maintaining my productive frame of mind.

I think the concept of right and wrong has changed. Years ago we were taught to not even take a nickel that was left in a vending machine. Today nobody thinks anything of it and wouldn't spend the time to figure out who it belongs to. With that said most people feel like they are honest but that others may not be as honest as they are.

There are honest and dishonest folks in every generation. When you are in the real estate service business, you meet all kinds and it is best to treat everybody the same.
4,799,925
Generally, most folks are pretty honest. Though when it comes to real estate and the sums of money involved, many people push the boundaries of honesty. (Though, in all fairness, many also don't know any better and are not intentionally being dishonest.)

I feel the current generations are much more honest than any of the predecessor. They have no fear. They are a take it or leave it society. It is both refreshing and off setting.

Michael Thornton the sun used to rise and set even 100 years ago.....
Some percentage of people will always be 'different' in any age, Michael. We all have a reasonable mix of people most of the time - and yes, we will find the folks that are honest and have the same value system in any generation.
1,466,057
Michael Thornton I don't think people today and intentionally dishonest. If brought up correctly, they will preserve the value system of our previous generations.

no.....they are not as honest as folks from previous generations.... not even close to it!!

I think as the knowledge base increases the ability to make better choices and more informed choices about core values can become better.

Do i see todays youngsters is general in a favorable light? no. Do they look at us favorably ? no. Are there exceptions ? yes. am i generally correct? i believe yes.
