Roy... can't say I've ever invited anyone to join. I have encouraged people I know who joined and then stay dormant to get active (no pun intended). But I don't see that happening any more than you see your invitations accepted.

Roy - I haven't really put much effort into this. I would imagine it would work best to have a personal conversation with people you want to join, and then send them the invitation.

Most people probably don't know or understand what AR is, unless they are already members.

Hello Roy,  I really do not 'invite' anyone to join.  I do express the great opportunity within AR and what it is about.  Let them look for themselves and decide whether something they want to participate in.  I do not want them thinking I am trying to "sell" them AR.  Mark

Roy Kelley A very good question - I have invited a few members to ActiveRain and they always have an objection - I do not know what to blog about and yes, WIIFM?

And if they don't get it....you can't do much about it!

We've invited dozens and only a few have responded. Even fewer have become active members. We tell them how Active Rain has helped us - both in boosting search engine results and in direct and indirect referrals.

Roy,

I've heard this sentiment expressed by every marketer on the planet. Each embraces a core value that they've got the greatest thing since sliced bread. "So why aren't the coming?"

Like @Debbie Gartner suggested, the first message must be about them. "What's in it for ME?" The mistake commonly made will be to offer common responses suggesting the benefits of social media. That is a mistake.

If you are inviting someone, that should imply you know them.

Here is an example:

TO your Coldwell BANKER friends - "What do think about the reference to your franchise in the DANGER Report as discussed on Active Rain. You can add your observation to the conversation. You will find AR to be a dynamic group of professionals who seek to learn through engagement.'

What would you do if a friend sent such a message relevant to your situation?

Now here is the problem. You can do your job is superior fashion and folks can come and peek under the hood. However, AR must do their side also.

This is where the wheels come of the wagon. AR is dropping the ball regarding newbie engagement. Unfortunately, this undermines the effort of those who are advocates of the platform.

I recommend you wait until AR leadership asks how to improve newbie engagement. By then you will actually have a response.

What do you think the probability of being asked by AR leadership?

The msg doesn't matter...the key is to explain the benefit BEFORE you send the message.  Ideal to send it to them while you are together and have them accept right there.  Then, get them started/show them around.
