It is undeniably true that many can not be inspired or influenced by the position or honor another may hold.

However, I am not one of those. To make it clear, I do not celebrate or follow celebrities or any icon created by the media, entertainment or sports media.

I do however, admire those who do good works.  Those who who are accessible, have greater dimension and can receive inspiration, have the epiphany, while in the presence of those of great spirit.

I have stood on the curb in honor of fallen soldiers returning home.

I have waited in line to get into seminars with headline speakers.

Hey, I even spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME waiting to be seated at the Outback.

I smile when I hear fellow old Floridian say, 'I don't need to go to Europe, I can go to Epcot." Yes they can go to Epcot.

There is no replacement, substitute in being shoulder to shoulder with like minded, inspired people, sharing a common affliction, seeking a common result. 

Yes, I can see folks shoulder to shoulder on the sofa. I struggle to think it is the same.

No... I don't idolize any living person enough to stand in line for hours to meet them.  I WOULD stand in line for hours (and much longer) if I could see my deceased parents or husband again!

Only if I had a chance to speak with him for a few minutes.  I feel when a person is that influential, it would be interesting to be able to interact .  

However -- that does not apply to politicians  --  except Vladimir Putin -- he is intriguing.

I don't think it's about the view, I think it's about the energy. So, yeah, i would have if it had been an option for non-New Yorkers.

Wayne, I decided not to brave the crowds when I couldn't figure out the motorcade routes around town.  Most of the events had tightly controlled admission, and the crowds were made up mostly of  area Caholic school kids. I was ready to hop my bike and take my chances, then they anounced that you couldn't bring a bicycle into restricted areas.  So I took a drive to the country and watched his speech on TV.  

No...and it has nothing to do with religion for me. I wouldn't stand in line to see most people except for maybe Paul McCartney.

I would not be willing to stand for hours but this is a very special experience for many people.

Pope John Paul II has been the only Pope to visit Canada so far.  He visited Canada three times, in 1984, 1987 and 2002.  He was in the Toronto area in 1984 and 2002.  World Youth Day 2002 was held in Toronto.  The crowds, especially at World Youth Day 2002 were huge at over 800,000 attendance for his closing papal Mass on July 28, 2002.  I did not see him in person during any of his visits.

no I wouldn't.  There are those I would stand in line for hours to see, but the Pope isn't on my list.  I did however say a prayer for his visit to be nice and of course safe.
