If it's political, I generally let it go...I know that around half the people disagree w/ me. I try to avoid politics like the plague.
Now, if it was something else (e.g. being a racist or something else truly offensive like that, then I'd probably reconsider having them as clients).

We're paid to deliver the goods in Real Estate, not politics, sex, religion nor social issues. Mouth shut and focus on homes is my policy. When people try to engage me, I smile and say "I charge $1,000/per hour for my political opinion and it's a long one, but showing you homes is free, which do you prefer I do today?" They typically laugh and say they understand and drop it. Thankfully it doesn't come up much.

Politically I wouldn't engage the conversation but touch a moral chord and it's possible they'd be walking. The easy solution is to take separate vehicles.

I keep my mouth shut! Politics, religion and "exes" have no place in a business environment. You don't want to lose a several grand over a comment, especially after spending three days with them!

I do like to say "We'll never agree unless you change your mind." But usually not in client situations.
If the client wants to push the political talk, say you do not discuss politics or that your broker prohibits political talk on the job. Then get through the transaction as quickly as you can.
If that's not effective, refer to Annette Lawrence , Palm Harbor, FL 727-420-4041's list.
Kevin J. May's suggestion of separate vehicles wI'll keep you separate from the client, which would be beneficial in your situation.

Listen but say nothing.
If you must say something it should be confined to "I hear you."
In the end you must decide who is going to be their future neighbor. If it's your farm area, you just might have a problem brewing.
Be aware, I would do none of the above. Instead I would engage them in dialog about the community and socieity that will prove most benefical to those who live there. It is possible, these buyers will not be fully comfortable or able to achieve a lifestyle of thriving success here. Then I pull out the name of agents on 'The List."

This kinda happened to me a week ago. Not on the politics level but on a different level. I live and sell in the Midwest and farm with my family. We own and operate a true family farm. So when showing my big city clients a farm house with a soybean field as a backdrop, I proceeded to explain how the soybeans grown and are harvested when they inquired. They were very appreciative for the first hand info. Then they asked me about GMO's. Well soon after that subject came up I could see that they were dead set against GMO's. So rather then debating I politely said " how about we agree to disagree?" They totally respected that comment and we proceeded on the property search.
So back to the voicing opinions subject.....yes I agree an agent must bite his/her tongue quite often. But if tactfully voiced, we don't have to be a blank zombie to our clients. But rather a thoughtful interesting agent is my approach.

sometimes people forget that when they dont go into an office, punch a timeclock, or work the proverbial 9-5 that this is a job. Religion and Politics have no place to be discussed in the workplace.
