I see the convenience to the general public. However, to let the general public into a property without any oversight, that is scary for the owner. Unless the management company pre-approves the prospect. But how do they know that THEY are the ones accessing the home? With all the scams especially on sites like Craigslist, I would want my management company be there for showings to sign up the prospective renter. Unless it is a licensed real estate agent letting them in via SentriLock, let's say.

That's an excellent concept.

Of course the encumbrances placed upon REALTORs by NAR and their broker means this will not be in common practice for the majority of homes for sale. I see little difference between this and a mechanical lockbox.

BUT, I hope as more and more and  more homes are sold outside the MLS agents and independent brokers will have the incentive to do what is right.  Make it easier to agent to sell without the MLS or Market homes directly to buyer and sellers, retain full control of the homes data and bypass the MLS and/or Zillow completely.

The lack of security should be a major concern.

In our area most use a showing service and electronic lockboxes that record the information on the user.
