I have to agree - I suspect the client found you endearing.
As for me, I do not discriminate, I have been guilty of putting my foot in my mouth with cilents and non-clients alike.

??? Unless what you said was incorrect, your foot is where it should be. I would inquire of Mr PHD how he would modify your 'talk' and feed his ego a bit.
Where my most embarrassing moments have surfaced is realizing the buyer or seller I was with is using the lexicon of shows seen on HGTV which is contradictory to the real world of real estate in Florida.
I was agreeing to things for which they had an entirely different, and incorrect, understanding. Had to cut the ropes and sail on.

Did he seem offended? I find when something like that happens they generally smile and tell me about their credentials and then we all have a chuckle.

So far, I have been able to only walk with my feet, not talk with them!

Jack, that probably made him know you know what you are doing. Yes, I have done that at least once.....

I have done that before. I wished a jewish person merry christmas and they got offended. I was like yikes! My bad!

I don't this is an example of putting your foot in your mouth.
Since I wasn't there, I assume you meant figuratively and not literally.
