Except here on Active Rain or the occassional one for personal correspondence, I do not use these for professional purposes.

I don't...as it's often not professional and not all phones can read and some get confused by them.

I see nothing wrong with them when used sparingly.  When words don't adequately express humour for example.    Much of the text lingo is now deemed old fashioned and used only by Grandparents!   LOL for example has been replaced with Ha Ha  (the # of ha's dependent on how funny something is considered!)

When I have the time or feel the need I use them.

I commonly use :-) with client emails and since I also handle social media, it's common practice for me 

a smiley face on occasion....

I do not use them.

EVERYTIME my sister 'unfriends' me. 

That would be 4 times a week.

texts to my daughter and occasionally to clients - usually the blushing smile
