YES!  Good question.  As a buyers agent, I have already been inside over 500 properties this year, have sat thru over 200 home inspection reports in my career.  I have learned a lot, some of which I have applied to our own home.

The most important thing?  Deferred maintenance is what brings down property value(s).  It is a slow moving thing but something we can (and should) stay on top of!

I think it has had an influence on the staging of my home....I like my home to look like it's on the market....inside and outside.... my children and grandchildren refer to it as OCD!!! hmmm

Perhaps! I do not have another personal perspective.

On the other hand, all  responsible home owners take good care of their property.

Some people are better at maintenance and upkeep than others.

What's that story of the cobbler with kids with no shoes?

No.  If you keep up your property it doesn't matter what you do for a living.  Real estate is merely sales nothing less and nothing more.

No. The fact that my home address appears, not my brokers address, on the state professional license website does keep me trimming those bushes.

Hi Mona Gersky . I think it does if for no other reason I know seeing a well kept home much more pleasant than one that is disheveled and full of clutter. I know I've seen some innovative things in people's homes that I've based a change in mine on. Living in a condo, there not a lot to deal with outside and it still looks good...

I think that the house cleaning and decluttering skills my mother instilled in me have always driven my housekeeping.  After seeing so many houses and home inspections, I see the damage neglected small repairs can cause.

"I" (my husband) has always kept up our own residential property. Besides fertilizing, watering, gardening, edging. mowing, pruning, trimming and lawn striping, he also provides the maintenance needed to the exterior. If I can, I do help with the maintenance with the interior.

Yes, I hope so. I have been to homes and I feel like I walked into a time warp!! Shag carpet, dated linoleum and wall paper. A fresh coat of paint and a change in flooring is not costly and we try to update our home accordingly.

Thanks for all the great responses.  For my own personal opinion, I think being in the real estate profession does keep me on my toes as far as the appearance of my home.
