Good morning Michael. The old saying, you get what you pay for immediately come to mind. It is worth what folks pay for and that is what they get.

The purpose of an open house is to get leads for the agent more than to sell the house.

One of the great things about practicing real estate -- there are many ways to approach your business.  Who am I to judge what is a service/disservice?  I do judge(lol) but I'm not going to discuss that here.

Disservice, I think all the discount brokers are bad service and bad for the client.

If I have a seller who wants to do an open house he's on his own.  They A- don't work in my market and B- inviting un vetted people into your home is NUTS.

Michael Thornton I would say it depends on the seller. For a full service broker, it is a disservice.

The worst thing that could happen to a sale is having the seller be there when a buyer is looking at a home. It is a sure way to keep a home from selling quickly, that is for sure.

Wow!  That isn't something I have heard of before.  I would not want my seller to do an open house, that sounds like a recipe for dissaster.  This is definitely a disservice.

Not a fan (obviously) of discount brokerages, but some folks are penny-wise and pound-foolish.

A shiver just ran down my back at this thought. But let's face it, most discount brokerage listings are FSBO'smasquerading as a listing because the home seller has paid a fee to put their home into mls (stupidly thinking that listing in mls is a marketing strategy).

Well first of all open houses don't work in my area.

My gut says never let this happen. I wouldn't want my seller out there winging it on their own with potential buyers. There are so many things that could happen.

It's common for flat fee, listing only services. I've never seen this for full service brokerages. We avoid having the owners present during any showings.
