Global economic instability definitely impacts the real estate market but it's hard to say how we will be impacted. Real property can be a "safe haven" for investors when stocks are so volatile, but funds may be tighter for those who suffer big losses in stocks.  I agree with David Barr that cheaper gas means more cash for first time buyers. And I think interest rates will probably stay low longer because of this recent stock market instability. Both help buyers to afford a new home.

Already, the market is paring its losses as I write this.  Oil at $39 a barrel is good for consumers as the price of gas has come down, which keeps inflation down.

What is being affected in housing is that the Chinese have withdrawn from the luxury sector.

Hopefully, it will help...as it will likely result in delayed increase to interest rate.  But, overall, I think most people buy and sell when they need to/want to.

Things have slowed down here in Tucson, AZ.  However, it is always slower this time of year.  I am interested to see if things pick back up once the cooler weather arrives, along wih the higher interest rates???
