It bugs me terribly and if it's chronic I would take action, like calling my client and leaving a message that I've left as I had other client appointments that I couldnt' be later for. (I'd do that even if I didn't have another appointment, as the message needs to be sent.)

We have people constantly driving from Atlanta to see properties and well it's an hour plus and traffic and you can plan well and still get caught in traffic and construction so I take it in stride and always meet at the office so I can stay productive until they arrive.

For tour of homes, I just let them know we're now seeing 3 houses not 6, due to the time remaining. I can't be late to my next appointment.

For any other appointment it's typically at their home or my office so I rarely have experienced them be late in their own home and I just work until they arrive at my office. Then I explain that our 60 minute meeting just became 40 minutes so, I'll need to get right to the point and we may not finish. But I can't be late for my next client.

See I've raised kids, and clients and kids are the same. Once they learn their lateness only affects them and what they wanted to accomplish, not me, they suddenly become punctual or continuously get inconvenienced by their own behavior. It doesn't affect me or my next client.

I hate lateness, but I love my boundaries.

Part of my initial discussion with buyers is that we have a certain time frame scheduled to see a house. There could be other showings around the same time and if you're going to be more than 10 minutes late to notify me.

It is not always possible to be on time.  For example, a client may be coming over during rush hour, which actually exists for about 3 hours on weekday mornings and evenings, from another part of the city.  If there is an accident, construction, or high volume on a highway, it can cause significant delays.  There are also sinkholes or other sudden road closures that could cause delays.  Many clients do advise if there are delays.

Oh yes!  I'm not sure if it's my age or having been in the business nearly 20 years but now I let them know in no uncertain terms.  I was speaking with a CPA and asked him some questions.  He informed me that if we were going to discuss this item it would cost me an hourly rate.  I told him that it upset me.  He then informed me that the only thing he has to sell is time.  I learned a lesson from this and now value my time more than ever.  Now when someone takes it without consideration it is cosidered stealing.

I understand if someone is occasionally late.  Things do happen. But like everyone else, we need to be respectful of others, the realtor, the home owner, etc.  When showing homes I always let the buyer know we have appointments so need to stick to our schedule.  As part of my buyer consultation I explain the whole buying process which includes the "showing process" and best times to see houses. If week days after work is going to be too busy due to work, traffic & kids schedules we need to work around weekends to avoid making everyone crazy!
