Michael... I must admit, I get this from my primary inspector, but I get so much mail of this sort in general that I typically don't read and just delete.

  Anything I get weekly I see as spam.  Everything I send out has an opt out link included.

I think weekly is too often;  I would do once/month.  It could even be 3 tips.  On Facebook/LI, etc you can post more often (even once/day).  You could do 30 tips in 30 days.

We get this type of thing from others, sometimes we use it, and always apprecate it.

Morning Michael. I average at least 100 emails/day +. Get a ton of emails on people sending me tips of all sorts from all walks of real estate. On real busy days,  I delete 'en masse' as we say. Sometimes I see the same type of info that I don't read, it eventually becomes marked 'spam' in my folder....

I would have no problems with this sort of email/newsletter even with your proprietary information as we are not competing, and you are not directly soliciting business. Monthly is often enough.

Michael I think what would be useful would be pictures of items that are on one sheet of laminated paper that agents can use as reference when doing tours with buyers . 

If it came weekly it would end up in spam or opting out; once a month with fresh content would be ok.

as long as you have an opt out note I see it as a good thing.  But you don't want to get reported as spam.

agents would enjoy the content who blog. perhaps they could opt out? i would enjoy it. (dont add me to the list thou) lol

Weekly tips are good if they are short, sweet and helpfull. There is so much spam most people are delete happy without reading. You need to give them a reason to read like give away restaurant gift cards. 

that's good information and I'd open the email to see what you had to offer each week....if I was not interested, I'd delete....but I'm confident I'd read it.... not spammy....

Make sure you get permission first under the anti-spam legislation.  Both Canada and the US have such legislation.  Whether I consider something spam depends on why it is coming to me.  For example, I have put myself on the lists of some AR members not in my area, who email daily.  I do not consider it spam because I like to see what certain members do in other areas. 

Sometimes, I get added to lists by local, national or international agents or other industry providers where I did not request being added, I don't know who they are and don't want their junk.  In such cases, I unsubscribe if possible and tick the box, if available, that it is spam.  Otherwise or sometimes in addition, I report as spam to my email provider.   Some people outright lie in their emails and state that they are sending me the email because I have previously dealt with them or their business or I have requested to be added to their list when none of these are true.  They also claim they are in compliance with anti-spam laws when they are not.

For one industry magazine, I receive a free hardcopy magazine.  However, they also send 4 to 7 emails every day.  I tried to unsubscribe but then the magazine was not delivered so I had to resubscribe.  I now filter the emails to trash so I never see the emails until I clear the trash.

In your particular case, I would be fine with weekly emails and would be happy to signup.  I would simply filter the emails to a "Michael Thornton" folder, in the same way I filter emails for all types of other recurring lists I am on and refer to it periodically.

I would not consider it spam and would use it in my business at some point with your permission...

I agree that it is useful info Michael.  But be prepared, some folks will think that everything is spam and others will refer you to their clients as long as you continue to remind them every month.

It's a terrific idea.  There is an attorney firm here that does an e-mail with relative legal questions answered.

I think the vote is in.  Perhaps what might be more useful would be a periodic (monthly) email to your real estate agent data base with a topical summary and link to each blog that they can click if interested.

I think it's a good idea, but don't expect everyone to read the emails. Can't hurt if it's not too much effort. Snazzy titles might help.

It's like any type of advertising . . . it will pull people in, or push them away. No advertising is going to get you 100%.  If getting your name and services out, then try to do that in the SUBJECT line of the email.  The majority of recipients will not read the contents.  Have your name very clear as the sender, and have a great subject line -- because that is the FIRST thing people see in their email.  If they click on it, great.  If not, then at least they will see your name, and a great subject line.

I love getting an email from my home inspector.  I think it is a good idea and you would like maintence ideas for my clients.  Good Luck!

It's definitely helpful information. I really want to say I'd like to be on your list, but have so little time to read everything. Haven't even been able to blog here much, that's why I go to the questions, it's fast and keeps me connected.

And I don't keep emails around for later reading, they pile up so fast. I would like to know that you are writing these blogs and then I can go there periodically when I have some breating room and go through what you have and open the ones I am interested in.

Any email that is sent without the recievers permission technically qualifies as spam...so before you send it out, email your RE Agents and ask if they'd like to hear from you on the topics.

I think this is helpful and great information.  I do think it adds value and clients would appreciate it.

I would sent an email to them first giving them a heads up that you will start sending a news letter once a week with tips that they can share with their clients. That way they know what to expect and it's not spam.

I send out an update on the market to everyone in my database.

Some block me...and that is ok. When Blocked...I remove from my system.

Either they are interested or NOT!

Once a week is over the top for us in my opinion.  I get a once a month tip from our dry cleaner which I really like.  One of the luxury mags I subscribe to, used to be once a week, now I get it every day, which is way too much, and I am deleting.  A

I think a monthly newsletter containing homeowner tips among other information is useful and helpful.  Everyone has access to the Internet these days and likely would consult the net for a specific repair. I think weekly may result in some opting out of your emails with useful market information (if you are doing one).

I find that the more often (daily, weekly) I get an email from someone or a company (ones which I never opted into receiving emails from them), the more likely I am to either unsubscribe, delete without reading or set up spam rules so it automatically goes to my spam folder.  There are companies that send out emails daily.  Even weekly is too often.  With as many emails as we get daily, who has the time to read these?

Michael Thornton I would say as long as you have an opt in and out choice, I wouldn't consider it spam.
