Didn't have the 7 year itch with Debbie or real estate.  Guess it was meant to be.

The pathology of relationship evolves as:

  1. Infatuation
  2. Power struggle
  3. Disillusionment
  4. Complacency
  5. Tradition
  6. Legacy

At the seven year mark you are in the period of complacency. And, important to note, if the issues preceding have not been resolved they compound the weight the relationship must bear, and ultimately can not hold up.  If a person does not feel needed or important, they will find a place or situation where that need is assuaged.

Each stage is easier to resolve is one knows they are coming.

Does a broker care? No. They will ALWAYS blame the agent.

Couldn't say, Michael... I'm way past the 7 year mark. At this stage I should have had at last 3 seven year itches.

I think it all has to do with the passion you have for what you do. I see businesses that last less than one year because of lack of said passion and others who flourish at 30 years plus...

I did change companies after 7 years in the Real Estate business.  But my personal life did not go through the 7 year itch.

I do not believe in 7 year cycles for anything negative that may happen in my personal life or business.

michael, pretty sure you have a typo. Its a 7 hour itch. :)

People have cycles, and bisinesses are made up of people. Harnessing the ups and downs and involving people in your process keeps a spouse or an employee

Michael Thornton I think it's a lot shorter in business. The grass always seems to look greener on the other side of the fence.

I would like to think that my career has been a continuum rather than a 7 year cycle of itches - although I have changed companies a couple of times for the better each move but in 26 years I don't think that is surprising

I have rashes all over my body from scratching so long. I think I need to sit out in the sun to dry up.

I've heard that 7 yrs is the critical hurdle.  At that point, you've "mastered" the skill and if you've made it, you are in good shape.

no.... agents who move frequently are not the ideal "hire".... business is and should be a reflection of stability....
