Are you asking whether you personally should use Flash or HTML5, or which you should use on your website?

If you mean for personal use, it depends on the website you're on. Some use Flash, some use HTML5. Flash has been the standard for animations and interactive websites for years, but it is quickly being replaced by HTML5. To the best of my knowledge, all modern browsers support HTML5. If the website you're on uses Flash, the performance will depend on your version of Flash. If it uses HTML5, the performance depends on your browser. So go ahead and update your version of Flash; it won't make a difference in how the websites you visit have been written.

If you mean for your website, HTML5 tends to be much faster and is now more widely supported than Flash. Adobe has dropped support for Linux, and iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches don't support Flash. Flash performance on Android phones is disappointing, to say the least. I'm not sure about the details of how HTML5 can completely replicate a website built with Flash, but I've seen it done successfully. I hope that answers your question!

I update flash.  But the reason I do it is for sites I use.  The state "deed/plat" site where all things I need on line are recorded uses it.  So if I don't stay up to date with my plug ins I can't pull up the deeds and plats.

That being said I don't have any flash code on my own site. I think it loads too slow.

Use HTML5 except in cases where a site only supports Flash. Yes, keep your Flash updated because sometimes you need it.

HTML5 is the wave of the future.  Though, I don't know how to implement it.

Brian England - I think Flash may not last long knowing that the support is not much.

The way to go NOW is HTML5 -- just my two cents, and I know this is not my field....

Did you read the recent articles about Mozilla turning off Flash on all Firefox browsers due to the insecurities in it? They and some other internet big wigs are pushing for a complete change to HTML5. You may want to Google it.

It kind of depends what website you are trying to use, older sites use Flash since it used to be the standard, you may have to update your flash player to get those to work properly.

Newer sites most likely run with HTML5, but that gets updated with your brower.

If you are having a site built I'd have them use HTML5, it is becoming the new standard.

It really depends on your understanding of your audience.

If it is a closed audience and you are a single source provider, you can dictate what your audience must use. As real estate agents who rely on effective marketing, this approach will crash and burn for us.

What you must consider regarding your audience is what is most widely accepted. For example, should I publish in English or Cantonese? Clearly in Palm Harbor Florida, English is most widely accepted.

You will find HTML  is the most widely accommodated platform and should be the focus of your efforts to reach the biggest share of your audience.

Be aware FLASH is an effective 'shiny thing' for those who can benefit from it. Just make effort to review your analytics to determine if your audience is mobile or stationary. If mobile, go to the mall and visit the kiosks of various cell vendors and visit your website using their devices. What happened to your 'FLASH'? Then take action accordingly.

Brian- I have no idea but I was listening to a Periscope from one tech group that favored HTML5.  Honestly way over my head.

HTML5 is generally accepted, Flash is actually no longer available on Mozilla. It is generally a target of hackers too.
