I enjoy working as an individual and I prefer dealing with individuals as compared to teams as well.

If the team is comprised of complementary genius, the experience will be exhilarating. If the members are all TEMPO genius, the experience will be one of extreme frustration.
The purpose of any team is defining that as a team they can accomplish what they can not accomplish as individuals. That accomplishment (Higher Purpose) really needs to be brought into focus and embraced by everyone.
That is much harder than it seems and contributes to the short life span of most collaborative or team efforts. I, at this time, prefer flying solo.

What is your take Brian? Have you done both?
I'll let you know soon as far as Real estate goes, I've successfully been on teams in other industries. As a Realtor, I worked as an individual for 14/16 years, but the last 2.5 years with an informal collaboration. Now, I'm in the process of creating an incorporated team, launching by 2016. Lot's of details to hammer out, but the process itself has made me really look at my business.
Since 10 years old, when I started a neighborhood car wash business, I realized I'm an entrepreneur at heart and in in previous businesses I formed teams (to multiply our growth & reach) over the years and it was great: collaboration teaches you to share ideas, compromise, negotiate and celebrate the talents of the individuals while covering the weaknesses. KEY POINT: don't partner with equal strength, equal weakness partners; meaning hire your weaknesses so the talent of the team overlaps the indivduals' weaknesses.
But if you want to grow beyond your sole proprietor income, knowledge base & skill-sets; teams & partnerships are great ways to do it; set up properly..they can also be like a bad marriage, so due dilligence in the setup is key.

Brian Coleman I prefer working as an individual. Working with a team is like working for someone. Good if you like it.

The preference is to be independent although I have worked in a team environment that was effective.

Brian,
Ron and I have worked as a team since we met. We enjoy each others company and appreciate each other strengths and talents. We have a lot of fun.
A team mate has to be someone you are compatible with. Otherwise, it is best to be on your own. A

I have spoken enough about TEAMS and work for myself but it would be nice to find a good assistant when you go on vacation or need to cover when you over book your day. Its hard to be more than one place at a time. But then having an assistant can also be a hassle because your expectations or work habits are not always the same as your assistant.
Oh what to do?
