I think most don't understand why it exists.... those who join as "rainers" and not "Rainmakers" are missing the boat anyway...

Roy Kelley - I am not against this point system. I like it.

Answer from those newbies who have risen the ladder of LeaderBoard - they are there for a reason and will say it's good or not so good.

As a newbie, I can tell you I do like the points system. However I think it's more about the individual rather than their Active Rain experience level. I consider myself to be a competitive person and I do enjoy setting goals. The points system allows for an easy way to track your involvement. Of course, there is still a personal responsibility of posting for value rather than points.

A little bit of both Roy, encouragement in the sense that there's a yardstick in front of them but dicouragement from the fact that quality of content surrounding you may suffer while you're on the rise. Look beyond the points and get your voice heard.

I look at AR as a tool to connect and learn and way to offer advise . I am not looking at earning points. If others are thinking about joining they should think in terms of benefits to them not points .?

Neither I think Roy. They don't understand it when they are new.

Roy without a doubt the point system encourages new members. Without the ar would not be well used. I know I wouldnt be around.

I like the point system, I think it does encourage challenges and I agree with what Ron and Alexandra Seigel stated!

Roy Kelley I would think it encourages the competitiveness of new members. The points also determine the cutoff point for getting a free blog.

I can not imagine why it would discourage anyone.  It's a meaningless game just to keep us going.

If a newbie actually looked at points they would be hugely discouraged.

AR has folks with MILLIONS of points while after three months and 17 hours they have accrued 1,160 points.  A newbie just might ask, "What's the point?"

As mature business folk we all understand that when using a service that is FREE, the reality is YOU ARE THE PRODUCT!

And in return they give me POINTS?

Maybe newbies see AR differently.

I think it encourages people at the beginning and gets them involved.  Then, they realize how much the community provides and there is less focus on points.
