No not for doing their job but one needs to be careful what they say, how it's said and the same for writing up the report. Don't scare a buyer to death over little things.

Why should you blame the inspector for doing their job? Blame should be on the seller for not taking proper care of the property.

No. As a former builder, I advise my clients before we ever get to the point of an inspection. If they still proceed with a purchase of a property with evident defects, then they have been forewarned.

No, i get mad when they are an alarmist. Most homes needing work are priced approproate to more than cover for the repairs. It is the hidden defects they should be looking for not cosmetic items. I am worried about bad septic or well, termites or something we cant see with the naked eye.

I want the inspector to find every issue....that keeps us out of court....when one person gets sued, they all get sued!!

I can't say I have ever gotten angry but I have seen some unnecessary items listed or wording that is improper and never should a home inspector advise a client whether they should buy or not. They should state the facts and leave it at that. If an inspector violates this code I will never use him again.

No, I don't. It's not the inspector's fault that a property is challenged. I just pubished a post on 9 reasons why sellers should have a pre-sale inspection. Maybe if more of them did, there would be fewer "challenged" properties.

Nope - Seller could have had pre-listing inspection and fixed the issues before sale

Not at all, it is not the inspectors fault, and I would rather have the deal fall apart as opposed to something becoming an issue after closing.

Michael - as long as he is honest and not an alarmist for no reason, I find no issues with an inspector who provides a less than favorable inspection report.

Nope! It's hard to justify being mad when the inspector provides an accurate report. The facts are the facts.

No, but I was irritated when an inspector asked us to "justify" one part of the construction design inside a condo. This very experienced inspector asks an agent to justify something that every condo in this complex has as part of its design. Crazy! Our answer? "Neither we nor the owner can explain or justify the developers design." Unspoken answer, "Are you nuts? Where does your objection to a design feature go into your inspection report?".

Good morning Michael. Only the home inspector is to be blames for a home that is "Challenged", are you kidding? You can only report on your finds, the blame has to be with the seller.

That is a childish way to approach the situation Michael Thornton. A house is what it is. My clients (buyers) are looking at a unbiased opinion and that's what they pay for. If a home sucks, it sucks and you can't paint it any other way...
