I don't know that there is a clear answer to this question, Michael. I'm on AR everyday answering questions and posting comments and try to post something daily. But I only ask questions when I really need an answer to something. Alot of the questions asked are a bit silly or vague and really hard to answer. Some seem as if they are posted only for points.

Under-utilized, but I see repeats of many of the same questions.

Many don't realize it's here.
Many don't have time to deal with it in this HOT market. In fact I've slowed comments on blogs to comment here.

I think they should eliminate this section and encourage everybody to put their questions in their blogs.

I think it's an overutilized segment in the rain. It's actually my least favorite part of AR, as it seems many questions are just grabs for points. It could be a benefit, but in it's current format I find it pretty silly.

Hi Michael -- I think there are currently many issues in the 'Rain and it seems as if participation has waned for posts and comments so it makes sense to me that a newer feature may not be garnering the expected attention.

Michael,
Well, Michael some people have inquiring minds, and some don't. It is the nature of the beast. A

I see many that are just posting about their listings and market reports and moving on. Some think the Q&A is a waste of time and others that don't frequently blog are using it. So maybe it isn't everyone's cup of tea. I do see the same ones over and over and the machine gun approach with several from the same person in a row.

I don't know if the points are all that important but I do feel it's a way to keep your name out in front of everybody with a small amount of effort relative to writing a blog post.

I really do. I get so much out of this area, more so than the blogging section. I just like that professionals from all over the U.S. can chime in on their experiences. I think it is the most valuable area of ActiveRain.

I only discovered this Q&A this year. I basically feel Active Rain does a bad job explaining the site and it's improvements, as after 8 years, I still basically have to discover on my own all the bells & whistles or have my fellow Rainmakers explain it to me. Which to some degree is the fun way, but I'd have utilized more, sooner, had I known...but didn't even realize the questions I wasn't asking.

Considering the number of members it does seem odd that there aren't at least hundreds more willing to participate.

Under-utilized! Say it's not so!
Where else can I go to read responses about concealed carry permits, or stray cats in the yard, or where'd my points go, or who answers extraneous questions.
You do realize YOU ARE one of the same folks asking and answering questions.
So why do we do it?
What are those who participate on Active Rain in pursuit of? Now, be aware that you have already noticed, it is not real estate information.

I think the Q & A has now taken the place of the blog comments. It's a great way to gain a little knowledge and talk with old friends again, for me anyway.

I think it's a highly abused segment of AR. Have you seen some of the questions that get asked?
1,844,291
This section used to annoy me because some of the 1st questions were really lame. 1st year real estate quesitons. Now I think it is better & you can actually compile some good info/choices from these questions.
Wasn't this originally supposed to be for consumers & no one asked any ??'s?
3,986,258
or is it an easy point getter for the most part? It is for me 90% of the time

Not only just asking- they also seem to be doing the answering as well. I even created a blog post about it. I don't know if it's under utilized or just something that the regulars find easier or most helpful in an ambassadorial way... and no... I don't really have an answer or even a firm opinion yet. Just an observation.

I definitely think that it is! To be honest, I've been here for a few months and just noticed this section a few days ago. I'll definitely start taking advantage of it more often from now on.

I love the this segment for its variety and quick to the point information. I can scan quickly to see if there are items/questions that interest me, read the answers, and chime in if I have something of worth to add. I have also used this forum to find others that interest me and then followed their blogs. That being said, I know some will use it for the points value only. That's ok, if I learned something along the way, I don't mind if they move up the chart.

I've found some good content in Q&A, and hopefully asked a few worthwhile questions and provided some solid answers. I look at Q&A as the 'AR break room.' It's less informal than blogging and commenting, it doesn't always have to be about work, and it gives us a chance to get to know each other better outside of real estate.
