Wasn't George Bailey in real estate? The guy in "It's a Wonderful Life?" I'll choose him. Who doesn't want to be like Jimmy Stewart?

Paul, I think that Property Brothers does a nice job where the real estate transaction portion is on firm ground and in a positive light. I can't even think of a single movie with a real estate agent in it. Curious to see if anyone has one below.

Unfortunately, it's easier to make a caricature out of a real estate agent than it is to realistically represent what we do all day, because so much of it is real grunt work. It's not that exciting to schlep around an agent while she fields numerous calls, takes endless notes, fires off dozens of emails, performs a variety of searches for clients, is present at endless inspections, works on her website, sends out just listed/just sold postcards, monitors her google adwords account, blogs on activerain in the wee morning hours, pushes paperwork to attorneys, inspectors, and lenders, takes a listing, gets a price reduction, negotiates an offer....
What happens on Million Dollar Listing is absurd. The most unrealistic 'reality' show on TV. But that's Hollywood! They only want to show the glamour, not the grunt work.
There's nothing on TV that's ever truly represented what a good real estate agent goes through on any given day.

Come on Paul! Get real! Does Hollywood ever depict anything the way it is in real life?

I can't say there are any that would make me want to be one. There are some thta have brought a lot of shame to the Realtor name. The best I hope for is for it to be a real depiction of the business.

No, but if you watch Law and Order enough, you'll be convinced that we're all serial killers. :D

The only show I can think of is Andy Griffith when Barnie got his license. Barnie had a few sales lined up that all fell apart when Opie ask why Andy wasn't telling the buyer about the leaking roof when it rained hard.

Paul,
The guy in Modern Family is one. I am not sure if I would refer to him as inspiring. A

Phil from Modern Family might be the best, well rounded agent I have ever seen or could hope to meet. Annette Benning in American Pie is a realistic view of some agents, but no that would not want to make me become one. Too bad good old Magnum P.I. didnt also have his RE license along with his PI license, as I would buy a house from him!

No show that would want you to become an agent; however I do like Phil from Modern Family.

I know American Beauty has some real estate characters. The open house scene is funny and realtors should be able to relate.

I can't think of one on either the movies or TV that would have made me think this is a great career. Though, I can think of many that would have led me to other careers.

Hi Paul -- my motivation to become an agent was not based on what I saw on television or in the movies. Not sure what is portrayed either in scripted or "non-scripted" formats is particularly realistic.

Paul - How about million dollar listing. Those agents make it look pretty easy to sell multi-million dollar homes. They don't ever do any paperwork, and have assistants do everything for them. All they do is connect with their sphere of rich people and hold huge broker open events. All of their negotiations on a purchase take place in a 5 minute phone call. They have great homes and drive around in very expensive cars.
Who wouldn't want to do that.
