There are enough scams out there that we need the regulations.

no, you need to be licensed....I can't imagine the mess a non licensed person could get into.... there are seasoned agents who do a great job of fouling up a deal!!!

I don't think owning a home matters, but certainly being licensed and licensed in the state where the deal is totally matters. There's a reason for the license requirements.

...Oh I just reread the question.. I didn't realize you said THE home as opposed to A home.  I suppose if it's your home, you can do it.  It may not be the smartest move financially (or securitywise), but I believe it is legal).

No, one needs to have a license and the accompanying training in order to be able to sell homes.  Though, I don;t think it matters whether they own a home or not.

Charles Ross No way!! It is illegal in my State for a non-licensed person to sell or assist in the sale of property they don't own. Even if they do it for no fee.

Charles, I am not sure regarding your motivation for this question, but if you expend some effort you will see there is something coming our way, meaning a real business disrupter for this profession.

Our own behavior has created this outcome, and there is emerging an entirely new business model that leaves the REALTOR standing on the sidewalk.

To answer your question, to accept compensation, the state says NO.

I say, it won't matter what we think, it's coming.

I think so.  But what I think and what is allowed are entirely different.  Can things go sideaways by having unqualified individuals handle a transaction they have no traning for?  Sure they can, but I think people should be free enough to make their own decisions, including horrible one's (to an extent of course) as long as they're willing to deal with the consequences and liabilities involved.

I agree with Raoul Loustaunau. If you do not own the home, you do not have the right to sell the home unless you are a licensed agent.
