I put all my important stuff in Dropbox. I've tried others but the service is free and I can find it from any computer...
Firsy, my wife and I are all Apple. We have a Time Capsule with 2T memory that is constantly updating our data. We also use Dropbox, Evernote, and a web based cloud CRM. I needed a service when we had PCs, but not now.
I use Box with is a could service very similar to Dropbox which James Dray mentioned.
Using Seagate External hard drive to backup daily on my desk top, and using Box for my laptop.
We have a dual hard drive to make sure nothing is lost.
Not often enough, but usually when I have something I can't risk losing.
I use an external drive, and do it manually. Not as often as I should, but once a month.
I use Carbonite to do constant back ups on the fly. I also transfer files between my home and work computers on a flash drive on a daily basis that in effect is another backup.
Time Machine. I do have an external hard drive as well. Our Mac's back up on a constant basis.

Most of the time, I have data backed up.
I use Apples Time Machine on my external HD. Some stuff is in iCloud, Dropbox, and Evernote as well. My laptop backs up constantly when it is plugged in at my home office. It is also a good idea to use a Solid State Drive (SSD) instead of a Hard Disk Drive (HDD). The SSD's cost more, but have no moving parts to fail.
Frank Rubi, MBA I use an external hard drive and back up everything once a day around three in the morning. My iPad and iPhone is backed up every day through iCloud. Sure came in handy when I bought the iPhone Plus.
Frank Rubi, MBA - I use MyPCBackup which backs up my two business laptops - DAILY! And this is very important.
Google docs.It is free and easy to use.
I do have a paid service since 1999.
