I would do a much better job of staying in touch with past clients and "mining" them for repeat and referral business.

I would not have worked in a brokerage where the Broker of Record was a competing agent. Too many times a prospect would come through the doors where he or his wife would claim that the person was their client. He also was caught rifling through the desk in out locked office after hours. Needless to say, we left promptly.

The advice I would give a newbie that I wish I had bee given, in order of greatest importance.

1. Select broker based on RESULTS

2. Have a plan BEFORE I start

3. Get engaged in transactions immediately

Learning more about the different laws and how they are used in the state.

More money into marketing

Nothing...I had great mentors from Ron who was in for two years before me to other great guys who added to his observations.  I had the time of my life.  When we had our firm in LA there were 800 agents in our area of Los Angeles and 10 women...I was treated royally by everyone.  A

I opened my first office in the summer of 1961 so my first five years took place in a different era. Those years were successful even though we had little in technology. I may have done better if I had the benefit of an experienced mentor.

I will focus as a buyer agent instead trying to get the listing side. Listings come naturally when past clients come to you.  As a rookie you are not skilled to sniff out sellers and issues associated.

I would have bought a lot of foreclosed homes for rental properties like my broker was doing. 

I would have learned new construction from the very beginning.... I was 7 or 8 years into my career before I started with new home sales and then listing subdivisions....

I don't think I would change anything.
