Jay T. from Zillow Group here.
First, Zillow and Trulia are not losing 25% of their listings - not even close. Once we get all the incoming feed agreements in place, we'll actually have more listings displayed that we did when ListHub was sending feeds.
ListHub is not the only listing source we have. In fact, over 130 MLSs have agreed to send direct feeds just since January and we are literally adding more every day. That's in addition to the over 5,000 brokerages sending direct feeds, as well as most large national franchise operations (KW, RE/MAX, Realogy, etc).
Over 80 million people visited Zillow last month, and 220 homes per second are viewed on Zillow mobile apps. There's still many many people using Zillow Group sites.
Broker choice matters, and it's the broker that should determine where their listings are displayed. Direct feeds from MLSs enable broker choice, as well as increase accuracy of listings displayed on Zillow Group sites.

If I were an agent I would never inform my clients of anywhere for searching other than my own personal or company website/IDX.
The more places consumers visit, the more advertisements they see, and the more opportunity that your clients will become someone else's clients.
So far as large nationwide search portals, there are still no better options than Z, T, and R, but locally, I'd have my clients using my own search options.

REALTOR is a catchy term and REALTOR.com WAS positioned to be #1 for all time. Then someone built a better mousetrap which consumers found entertaining and easier to use. Z/T, as you call it, know who their customers are and will adapt accordingly while the dead horse continues to be beaten.

It is better to simply advise prospects to use your own website for their searches to take advantage of the up to date information.
There is little to benefit by bashing others.

Where else can the consumer go, even if they wanted to?
Are YOU promoting your Franchise search tools or perhaps the consumer portal to the local MLS?
The consumer is looking for something neutral, not agent branded. Since agents have been pre-occupied with their branding, the space has been vacated and filled by a non-real estate enterprise. We did it to ourselves and from all indications, the majority of agents will continue in this direction until they finally realize Z's real objective. Then it will be too late.
By the way, the consumer finds the inadequacies of Z and T to be acceptable (perhaps ignorance is blissa) including the guesstimates. What needs to be understood is they really are unaware of other choices.
Are you going to start promoting other search resources to the public that appear neutral and assures the public of unbiased, timely, accurate data?

I think people still love Z & T. They do get information other than listing there. For me, I do let my clients know.
I think time will tell us what will happen.

I am not sure that it is no longer the place for consumers to check out homes, for example our local TAR has an agreement in place with Zillow.com, direct feed to MLS listings. They probably thought this thru and have other sources. As a preimer agent on Zillow.com, I add all the listings I represent to ensure they get the max traffic and online exposure. Will be interested to see if there are any changes on Zillow.com

Might not help much, but I did post about it on Facebook.

I don't like either and am not telling my clients anything. I did get some info that our MLS is working on a deal with Z that will allow them to continue to pick up OUR listings.

I haven't started talking to my clients about Z and T a long time ago. Most of the naturally turned away due to inaccuracies on their sites.

Z & T was NEVER the place to go for anything Real Estate. I tell everyone all the time. Now I hear people saying they don't want either of these two companpanies to have any access to their listing.

Clients never listen to us. We just have to do a better job in our presentation on line so the clients will think of us first.

I'm not saying anything. If someone asks I'll tell them but otherwise it's silence...
