30 minutes before turning in, take a 'shot' of grandma's medicine.
15 minutes before turning in make a list of the problems that must be solved.
6 hours lateer wake and write down those solutions that come in the night.

I take a few minutes at night before turning out the light to sit and reflect on the day, and what went RIGHT. I'm looking for the positive aspects of the day, I'm looking to find the BEST of what happened.
By the time it's lights out, I'm feeling pretty darned good! And I sleep like a baby...
When I wake, I find myself in the same good-feeling place I was when I went to sleep, and that's a great way to start the day.
In the quiet of early morning hours is when I find the answers I'm looking for. More often than not, answers are whispered; they are rarely shouted. You have to be able to hear the answer, and when you are wound up tight, you cannot hear them.
Lottie, we are back to the relax and chill conversation of yesterday. :) Trust that everything will unfold for you, and it will. You don't have to try and wrestle it all to the ground. Relax, enjoy your family, have a little fun.
When your mind is racing, it's usually with thoughts of worry, which are drowning out the answers you're looking for.
Hold steady. Be calm. Have fun! Things have a way of working themselves out.

Fun reading your responses. After 20 or so minutes, when I know I won't be going back to sleep, I get up. If it's around 4:00 AM, I get to work. If it's earlier and I've slept less than 4 hours, I'll enjoy Active Rain, a computer game, odds and ends---then fall asleep in the most amazing chair for a few hours. That's what I did last night.

Hi Lottie -- I can offer no solutions(although plenty of examples of the same thing occurring with me) but will check back to see if there are any answers that resonate with me.

Yes and Yes. I tend to get up and do one of 2 things: Make a handwritten note in my calendar for the day or just get it done at that moment. Yes, some of my clients are wondering why in the world I would be working on their home search at 3 in the morning! I just laugh and tell them they are very important and I don't want them to miss out. So what if I go back to sleep and then respond later in the day.

Toss and turn for 15 minutes then up and at my computer. I stay out of the office and opt for the laptop normally.

I do... but I just make myself go back to sleep! In reality, it's not waking up very often that's the problem because my mind is racing, it's getting to sleep in the first place.

Happens all the time, but I always have one of those small handheld recorders at bedside. Never have trouble sleeping after making a quick voice note or two.

Lottie, I just heard of a home remedy that should help you sleep through the night. Bananas are high in potassium but the majority of that is found in the peel. Leaving the peel on, cut the ends off a banana. Drop the banana with the peel into boiling water. Let steep for 8 minutes. Remove the banana. Add sugar or honey to the Banana Tea and drink. Potassium encourages Melatonin production in your brain which helps you sleep.

That use to happen to me. It was years ago when I was running around a lot and taking a lot of bank owned listings. I had to program my brain to shut down at night. I gave myself a talk saying it was all ok and everything could wait until the next day.

I keep a pad on my nightstand, with any thoughts that wake me up, once I write it down I can go back to sleep.

I do not have that problem. Most of the time I sleep through the night.

I used to do that all the time. Now I don't and haven't in years. I tend to stay up later and get things ready for the next day so I can sleep.

I write a note on a tablet on my nightstand to make sure I don't forget what it is I need to take care of in the morning. That way I don't need to obsess over it and can fall back to sleep.

My son use to have night terrors when he was little and that is what I equate this to. My busy mind never rests, I just fear I forgot a page in an offer or I forgot to respond to or by the appropriate date or time. I just get up and check! Great question Lottie Kendall!!!

I take my thumb and forefinger and rub the other thumb lenth-wise for 5 minutes. It take my mind off of what was keeping me awake and allows me to go back to sleep. I learn this technique in Yoga class.

Sometimes that happens. I am a big fan of melatonin...which helps me feel drowsy and drift off again. If it is early morning, sometimes I will just get up and start working.

OMG Lottie, we must be twins, lots going on, and yes 2 am is a common time of the night. Wish there was a switch to shut it off!
