I am more concerned about gangs and drug violence than the threat of ISIS in our local neighborhoods. Now that may change in the future.

Success is measured by the number of lives one influences.
These to whom you refer have created such fear that neighbors are spying on neighbors.
These to whom you refer have created the enviroment where the innocent are arrested and the suspect abused..but it's ok because we feel safer.
These to whom you refer have created a Xeniphobic society that contradicts and restrains the very Judo/Christian principles for which the home of the brave and land of the free is based.
Domestic efforts would be better spent to understand the hopelessness expernenced by those who are attracted by groups such as ISIS and international efforts should be intensely focused on the naive leadership that encourages and enboldens our enemies.
Many years ago the behaviors described above was how life in Russia, China, Korea was decribed to make clear how much better life in the USA was.
They have influenced MANY lives.

Annette Lawrence I wouldn't be so cavalier as to assume we live in a cornfield. Truth be known we live in a lovely middle to upscale to high end semi rural to rural coastal community in one of the most beautiful places in North San Diego County.
And that's just the point. Our neighborhood is less than 60 miles from one of the most volatile borders in the entire World and it's a known fact that criminals, drug cartels, human traffickers, gun smugglers and yes even terrorists have been inundating our open border everyday of every week of month of every year for YEARS!
So am I a bit concerned if not passionate about that? Hell yes! Further I don't buy into the notion that they have already won by any means. If so I'd already have my head buried in the sand. On the contrary. That's exactly why I'm reaching out to what I consider to be a very insightful, thoughtful and rationale community.
To suggest that "SUCH THINKING" shows that we question and/or suspect our neighbor is ludicrous at best.
To assume that "SUCH THINKING" shows very little thought has been invested in understanding what is really happening is very presumptuous.
Our particular Neighborhood Watch organization is very tuned in and keeps very close contact with one another and meet regularly to discuss every emergency response scenario we feel concerned about.
Frankly I'm very glad that we have the type of media i.e. computer, cell and TV technology and not a day goes by that we don't connect to any/all of them many times over throughout the day. I like being and staying informed and don't have any intention of turning off my TV anytime soon.
As for living today as it is my last. I do that every time I paddle out for a surf with my friends, the seals and dolphins and the beautiful surf that allows me the opportunity to play upon its back.
Thank you for stopping by.

Such thinking shows they have already WON!
Such thinking shows they have made us question and suspect our neighbor.
Such thinking shows very little thought has been invested in understanding what is really happening.
It is easy enough to identify the common thread the binds terrorist together. However, the 'radicalization' of our young requires the acknowledgment of the blindness we exhibited in which we allowed our society to be dismantled.
Now, there will be an accounting for our ways.
It time to turn off the TV and do something that really matters. To be preoccupied with what is so unlikely to occur in a cornfield near you is a symptom of a sick society.
Live like today is your last day, then tomorrow will take care of itself.

Annette Lawrence Albeit I don't always understand your more often than not profound words of wisdom I do always welcome your feedback. Not altogether sure what this comment is all about but thank you once again for stopping by.

Gabe Sanders Perhaps if I lived in Stuart, FL I'd take that same posture.

Ron & Alexandra Seigel It really depends on who you're talking to. For every one person that thinks they're running out of steam there's one that will tell you that they're just gearing up and that home grown terrorism is on the rise.
Could be that it's just a lot more prolific and talked about this close to the border. But there's not a day that goes by in the San Diego area that they're not finding tunnels, sex slave, drug and arms stashes and criminal elements penetrating our borders.

I am much more concerned with some of the local yahoos that are driving drunk and shooting off their guns than I am about ISIS in the local area.

John,
Funny you should mention that. This weekend, we were talking to a real expert on the Middle East. This individual felt that the ISIS crisis is almost over because the money supporting them has lessened...A
