I have found baking cookies and coffee or hot apple cider for winter.
Summer it is too hot to bake, so chocolates, mints and water.

I do not offer anything at the open house. People may have food allergies.

I do not provide food anymore, too much hassle and buyers didn't seem to want it. When I did I kept it simple like cookies or a light something thye could take with them.

Renee, we only use food when we have a brokers open house. We find food to be a distraction for a public open house as some visitors have no clue or manners when it comes to their children grabbing food and taking off to consume it elsewhere in the home leaving a mess behind. Chocolate is a definite NO is you have sweets out. Kids touch curtains, etc after the candy has melted in their hand!

Something that will not make a mess. We don't want them spilling soup or chili on the carpeting. Finger food (Non-dripping) is good. We make cookies that don't crumble.

candy wrappers on the floor. cookie crumbs followed by ants. $250 of Capuccino & sandwiches followed by a cancellation notice.

Cookies, nothing that will be tracked through the house or create a stain

For public open houses, I prefer just water and cookies and/or chocolate candy. For broker open houses, sometimes more of a lunch spread.

I don't serve food at open houses. I would prefer that we have customers that want to see a home more than just pop in for free food.

When I started real estate, I went all out, doing drinks, sandwiches, etc/ Now I just do bottled water and cookies. For a broker's open house, it is different and we do something more substantial.

I usually provide food at a Broker's Open House. The Mortgage Company usually brings the food and it ranges from Panera Bread sandwiches to cookies and juice. I never serve alcoholic beverages. Serving alcohol opens you up to a number of liabilites. At a Public Open House, I sometimes provide bottled water.

When Naples was my market area our open houses were wine & cheese about 90% of the time. This is probably true of nearly all Naples' open houses. On a particularly expensive listing the red wine was quickly nixed after a spill caused a lot of consternation with a certain porous flooring material. Needless to say the damage caused was much more expensive than the cost of the wine. On that day our wine was complimented with a whine!

Unless the on the top of your open house signs sits a rider shouting FREE FOOD, providing such at an open house brings no value, only a possilbe clean situation later.
At Brokers Open's that is expected.
At 11 -1 open house targeting professional during their luch HAVE LUNCH With ME works.
A little water is all that is needed......if your open house has a purpose. If no purpose identified, well then feed them.
Baked cookies, fried chicken, apple pie is not about FEEDING them but is everything about connecting the vistor to the 'Best Times of Their Lives."

I haven't held an Open House in 10 years but when I did we provided non-messy goodies and bottled water.
