The simple answer: Write quality content, info that many others would find useful (whether real estate or AR related), and write it in a format that's appealing to readers. Or pose an intriguing question that will cause discussion and may not have an easy answer.
The more complex: There's definitely an activerain fairy at work - but new bloggers, "milestone" blogs, and AR success stories tend to get the nod pretty often.
Participating in the "active" part of the rain helps, too - the more you comment and interact with other members, the more comments and likes(attention) your blog posts will naturally get
I think (through experimenting) that clicks play a role too, and this may or may not carry more weight now that a click-hungry entity is running the show.

I joined years ago and blogged a little bit. Left for three years and just came back in January. I've had three posts featured already this year. Provide something that other agents will find valuable to their business and you'll get featured.

The selection is made by the staff of ActiveRain and possibly some other members who have been selected for this role.

There are ways, but what is written on the surface if seldom the whole story.

If it is a good post, it will be featured. Or if you are hosting ActiveRain meetup, it is also possible.

Hmmmm... big mystery. I often wondered about that. I have seen some very good post, but never made the cut.

Now that has been the question over time. There is a "Blog Rain Fairy" who has a magic wand. With a poof of the wand your blog gets Featured or not. In other words, Your guess is as good as anyone else's>

I just had to jump in on this. BTW. Andrew Mooers I love your answer. I think it is mostly about content however sometimes it seems to be just to put some variety on the board. I know that Kerrie has a soft post in her heart for Newbies and wants them to stick around so that might explain some of them. I remember a year or more ago one member emailed me and asked me to Suggest her post for a feature. She emailed several others with the same request and sure enough it got featured. It was a fun read and feature worthy I might add. I have also seen great posts that did not get featured and wondered why not.
When Bob Stewart was around he extended an invitation to anybody who thought they wrote a post worthy of a feature to let hinm know and he just might feature it but no guarantees. Maybe Kerrie would do the same thing.

I have seen first blog posts get featured. I have seen (before the changes even) blog posts get featured with NO comments. ????? I have seen blog posts get featured that are written that really are hard to read and hard to follow...one this week actually. So, there is no rhyme or reason to it. It depends on the AR gods and one or two members who are subject to death if they reveal their identities.

It's a complete mystery to me, because if you read some of the featured posts you really question why they were featured. Oftentimes you will see the same people get their posts featured over and over again, and again I am not exactly sure who makes those decisions.
I read one post that was featured the other day that was about one paragraph long. It had only a few comments, and all it did was promote their own business.

I'm actually not sure how they get featured. I'm over 100 blog posts right now and have been blogging since November of last year and I finally got one of my blogs featured late last week. I've read it takes you awhile to get a blog featured on AR.
I recommend trying to come up with a catch relevant blog title and a simple blog post that has great content and is easy to read for the reader. That might sound generic, but thats what I did without realizing it last week. Hope this helps!
