Here is what I recommend. Place the entire set on Ebay at a price which it can not possibly sell. Use any online source for this purpose even FB is you want. The purpose is the fabricate a value number.

Now, on your PRESCOT citizen facing community website start reminding folks about the Arizona Highway Magazine and talk about some of the articles and images.  Do this until you start getting some churn.

Now, launch a 'share the wealth' plan that will result in folks winning one or more of these publications. They can own a piece of the 'million dollar' pie.

Use SurveyMonkey or trivia questions, or who has the prettiest cat, lost the most weight, achieved their new year resolution goal first citizen engagement resources. Most citizens really won't be competing for the publication, that is just icing on the cake for sharing their lives.

Typically, Thursdays are the best day to commit your blog to local events and attractions.

This is collateral that has legs. Make it run for you.

Oh, you should commit to personally delivering the spoils to the winner. After all you want to have their address, IP and some knowledge of them. That after all is the prime objective. And when you make the delivery, always ask, "Do you know anyone here in Prescott Hills who........"  "I was thinking about a smaller place for myself."  SUCCESS!

Using the articles (or parts thereof) as informational tidbits in newsletters will bring a bit of authority to you as the local expert. Everyone always likes to know a little bit about their "hometown" or where they are moving to. If you have a regular Blog, use these tidbits of local flavor there as well.

Here is an idea that I have used with old National Geographic magazines.

I like car shows.  Summer time car shows where folks from around the area meet on a Saturday evening under the lights in a big parking lot.

Old magazines have ads for cars of that era.  I carefully cut the car ads out of National Geographic magazines, place them in nice 8'X10' frames, and sell them for $40.  A guy at the show with a 1965 Ford Fairlane will gladly fork over $45 for a framed photo of his car.

As long as I'm at the show, I might as well make some money.

Its a bit of a double edge sword, As Realtors we are suppose to adapt to the changing times and New information.  The fact is, much if it is irrelevant.   (I mean theses darn appraisers wont even let us go back just Two years for comps,) However, It is a wealth of information on making you the Credible Realtor of the area. Definitely add it an article a week to your blog or include quotes from the magazine in your mailings to the neighborhood. To get your best bang for your buck I would do a THEN and NOW segment showing pictures, captions or articles.   Finding one on Bank Interest Rates in the 70's would be a great topic.  like 13 1/2% interest to 3 1/2% today !!!   Wow, Good times.   Best of Luck!

John, Very cool. I've found that both new and long-time residents of my area, TolucaLake, love discovering old photos that illustrate the history of our community. Certainly mention that you have the mags in your blog and social media in a way that entices your audience. Maybe a local flyer that includes that you've come across this treasure-trove and would love to share with neighbors could attract attention. Best of luck!

Wow does your article on Arizona Highways bring back memories. One of the photographers who contributed many marvelous pictures over the years was Ray Manley from Tucson. His studio also did a lot of class and event picture's at the high school I attended, Southern Arizona School for Boys in Sabino canyon.

Arizona Highways was always one of if not the premier state photographic magazine.  Good luck with your project!

Thanks everyone, especially Annette Lawrence, for your terrific ideas on how to use the magazines. I just bought a new domain "ithappenedinPrescott.com" and set up a public facebook group "It Happened in Prescott" to capitalize on your ideas. There are a lot of history buffs here who can get involved and participate in the facebook group. We have had some events over the years that have attracted national attention. Prescott has been chosen as a "best place to retire" and also claims to be "everyone's home town'" and "Arizona's Christmas City."

Wow! I did not expect to get so many good answers. I knew the magazines had potential but I had no idea how much.

Thanks to all of you for your feedback. I have had these magazines for five or six years and they have been in the way in my garage all this time.

I just bought the domain "ithappenedinPrescott.com" as a place to put the articles from the magazines. I will set up a wordpress blog there. I think there is the potential to allow local authors to post there. I also believe it will be easy to hire writers to go through the magazines and write for the new website. I also claimed "ithappenedinPrescott" as a new group on Facebook.

Thanks again to everyone for your comments.

John Pignatelli -- You are right about the "two edged sword." A lot of the appeal of the City of Prescott is about "nostalgia." That will be the primary point I hope to play upon.

Erick Blackwelder -- I like your idea. However, I don't think these magazines have a lot of ads in them. We do have car shows here. The climate in Arizona allows old cars to last longer than in areas where a lot of salt is used on the roads.

I have found that it's better to offer the latest issues in a very nice bound volume edition which can be purchased directly from Arizona Highways. For a small fee they can even personalize the gift from you with gold lettering on the cover. They are a bit pricey (close to $50) but people love them. They make a great gift to a new resident or those who like to visit.

Kathleen Luiten -- I do plan to gather old photos, even to buy some from the Sharlot Hall Museum here in Prescott. Prescott was the territorial capital of Arizona before it became a state. There is a lot of history here. Ft. Whipple was a cavalry outpost and was here to protect the miners from the Indians.

Arizona Highways Magazine has LOTS of pictures of Prescott. I might sell a few of the magazines to Agents in other Arizona towns to use in a campaign similar to the one I will run.
