I do not believe so. Most of the public refers to all of us as Realtors and I don't believe they give a hoo-ha about the distinction. For me, being a Realtor sometimes feels like enforced unionization since I can't belong to my MLS without being one.

Most agents in my area are REALTORS®. It's a requirement of the local MLS. Overall, though, I don't think the public really knows the difference. I think that's why NAR came up with the new core standards. They way they are forcing associations to get out and become more involved in local politics and the community and doing with the REALTOR® name attached.

The question was really about being a REALTOR, not being licensed. Many brokerages insist their agents, who are all licensed are also Realtors. But does the public know or even care?

How is it possible to assist others to buy and sell reaal estate without a liscense? That is the real question. Doing so is illegal. Whether or not you are a member of the National Association of Realtors has nothing to do with it.
